Scream has only been on the air seven weeks and been renewed for a second season, and now The CW is wanting to revive Friday the 13th as a TV show. We already know it can translate to the small screen, now we just have to see what the network comes up with.
According to Deadline, the show will look a bit different than the original films. The creators are making Jason more grounded in reality. Deadline described the show “as a sophisticated, horror/crime thriller, the potential Friday The 13th series is about the ongoing quest of a detective’s search for his missing brother that is somehow tied to Jason Vorhees, a long thought dead serial killer who has now returned to wreak havoc in the new Crystal Lake.”
ScreenRant said fans shouldn’t expect the series to be similar to MTV’s Scream. The website said that Scream is aimed towards younger viewers almost excluding original fans. I’ve watched all of the originals Scream films and I love the series, but yes it is intended for a younger audience.
According to ScreenRant, Friday the 13th will “appeal to a wider audience”, even the fans from the original films. The network is trying to “move away from its teen-centric reputation.”
The series is still in development, so we’ll have to wait for more details and who knows how it could change in development as well.
This doesn’t sound like a remake as much as a side story of the films. The films were mainly about Jason or his mother killing camp councilors, not the investigation of finding him.
Are you excited for yet another revival of Friday the 13th? Do you think it will translate well to the small screen? Will it be as successful as MTV’s Scream?
