This wasn’t the episode we were supposed to get this week, but we got a lot of background on this family.
Alex wasn’t the first member of her family to work for the DEO, her father was and he died working for them.
No wonder her mother got so mad when she told her the truth. It had nothing to do with Kara, it had to do with her dad.
Until we saw Hank’s alien eyes, everything seemed fine with this organization, well as fine as it can be when they are hunting extraterrestrials.
This man has a lot of secrets and him not telling Alex that her father worked for him just makes me very weary of him.
So we still haven’t got any strong male characters, but we got a lot of depth with our main women on the show.
We especially got depth from Cat Grant. She is a very powerful, if slightly insecure woman. She’s never going to get her mother to say she’s proud of her, even with having an empire under her belt. And running a multimillion dollar company isn’t enough for this woman, she had to team up with Supergirl and save the day. How else is she going to fill the never ending void?
Alex also has issues with her mother. That seemed to be the theme of the episode. Unlike Cat, Alex was able to work out her relationship with her mom. It’s funny that it was always Alex’s job to take care of her superhuman little sister, shouldn’t it be the other way around?
That’s a lot of pressure to put on a girl. Finally Kara is getting tough love from her foster mother and she’s very uncomfortable with it.
For the most part switching up the episodes wasn’t a horrible thing. There were two things that it confused though. First, what happened with James’ ex, now girlfriend? They’re together, but there’s clearly still something between him and Kara. It was strange to go from the ex coming back to them back together.
It’s not a major part of the story, but fans do ship Kara and James, so I’m sure I’m not the only one wondering what happened there.
Why is Cat suddenly standing up for Supergirl? She was so tough on her before. I feel like we missed something there. Nothing too major, I’m sure, seeing as Cat’s been fascinated with this superhero since the beginning.
We will have to wait at least an episode to find more about what happened Alex’s dad. It’s a nice little twist, even if it’s not a big surprise.
