It’s been a while since we’ve since a run of the mill case on Supernatural and it was a nice break from the hunt for the Darkness.
That was one creepy bunny mask and I was a little sad when they burned it. I kind of liked thinking of the boys chasing down a creepy bunny.
This episode reminded me of the Halloween episode in season two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In that episode the costumes changed the people into whatever they were dressed up as. It was a great episode for Xander. He learned a lot of military stuff that he got to use for the Scooby gang.
In this Supernatural episode the costumes were cursed by the spirit of the man that owned them. This seemed like a real old school Supernatural episode. I know we’ve had normal cases from time to time, but after everything we’ve experience in 11 seasons, those basic cases can sometimes get lost in whatever evil the boys are facing this season.
It was the old story of a man accidentally being killed and coming back for revenge, but this time he did it through his costumes. I kind of wish this episode was closer to Halloween, it would be a great episode to watch on Halloween.
I think the best part of the episode was when Sam had to face the clown. He’s defeated Lucifer and countless other monsters, but a clown terrifies him. This is what makes Sam so great though, even though he was terrified he still kicked ass! It takes a lot more than a clown to take Sam Winchester down.
Other than the costumes and the unique way the ghost was killing, there wasn’t really anything special about this episode. What was great about the episode was the laughs and just a chance to breath a little bit.
It’s nice to take a step back and remember why we fell in love with this show. It was for episodes like this. It’s another case and the boys just handle it.
We also got to see Donna again and she’s still dealing with her baggage, which Sam tried to help her through, but she didn’t want any help.
It was kind of nice to have someone involved in the case but never let in on the secret. Doug seemed very dim witted, but he knew something more was going on here, but he was never read in. Which was great for us because we got to laugh at the very bad cover up stories: ‘It was a copy cat killer of a copy cat killer.’ Yeah that makes total sense, not.
We couldn’t get through an episode without touching on those visions Sam has been having. He prayed for God yet again, this time for answers. Is God listening?
Sam has a point that God may decide to show up this time because it’s his sister. These boys know how it is when family is involved. If they only knew that God has played a small part in the bigger picture, but he has been gone for a while.
I thought that his visions may be coming from Lucifer and they might very will be from the devil. Why would Lucifer want to help Sam?
I read an article in Entertainment Weekly that the Jensen Ackles said that they don’t know if the Darkness is really evil. If Amara isn’t evil, then maybe Lucifer is trying to trick Sam, I mean it’s been done before. He worked with a demon thinking he was doing good and instead he freed the devil.
We just assumed that the Darkness was evil. No one really seems to know anything about her. We really need to talk to God and find out what really happened between the two of them. If we’ve learned anything, it’s that you don’t make God mad.
Supernatural will take a little break for Thanksgiving, but the boys will be back December 2nd:
