Tonight marks Ben McKenzie’s directorial debut on Gotham and according to the actor, there’s a lot that happens in this episode.
It’s always interesting to see what an actor’s take on the show is when they step into the director’s chair. I like when the showrunners bring in the actors. When the actor has been playing the character for a few years in this world, they know the world very well and they also have a different insight from being on the inside of the story.
David Mazouz and James Remar really enjoyed being directed by their castmate. David said Ben really makes him think about his character and the arc of the episode. James said Ben understands how an actor works, so he’s able to be insightful to that with his notes.
The hardest thing for Ben was directing himself. As you can expect, being a director and being an actor takes different mindsets. Well, Ben looked like he had both jobs down in FOX’s behind the scenes video. He also said he was having the time of his life.
