Just when you thought Pretty Little Liars was gone forever, I. Marlene King decided to create a spin-off and bring back two of the liars: Mona and Alison.
I’m not sure how I feel about this. PLL will just not be the same without all of our liars. I’m very excited to see Mona (Janel Parrish) again but if Alison (Sasha Pieterse) is coming back, what happens to Emily? This is the hard part about creating a spin-off of a beloved show.
Marlene is adapting another Sara Shepard book, this time The Perfectionists. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show was put into development in November 2014 but they decided to connect it with PLL.
We’re not in Rosewood anymore, we’re in Beacon Heights. Freeform describes the town: “Everything about the town of Beacon Heights seems perfect, from their top-tier college to their overachieving residents. But nothing in Beacon Heights is as it appears to be. The stress of needing to be perfect leads to the town’s first murder. Behind every Perfectionist is a secret, a lie and a needed alibi.”
It definitely has a similar tone to PLL. It’s unclear how Alison and Mona will fit into this new world just yet.
Taking away the fact that Sasha and Janel are reprising their roles, it sounds pretty interesting. But I still don’t know how you unsettle the nice ending PLL left us with.
Despite my uneasiness to this news, for the reasons I mentioned, I will still check this show out. I at least have to give it a try.
What do you think of The Perfectionists? WIll you give it a try? Are you wondering what this means for Emily and Alison too?
