Last week Bruce played the billionaire playboy and this week he played detective. I definitely like both sides but he can’t let the world see both of them.
Bruce (David Mazouz) has definitely changed. He would never have let an innocent boy die before. I watched last season and I saw what Ra’s al Ghul (Alexander Siddig) put Bruce and Alfred (Sean Pertwee) through but still, I would never have expected Bruce to just stand by while Ra slit that poor boy’s throat. I saw true fear in Bruce’s eyes but I also saw resolve. There was no changing his mind. Can Bruce live with his decision? Is this a turning point?
Ra may have surrendered but something tells me we’re not done with him yet. To all of the people who have read the comics, is he a fixture? He was in Arrow but is he a Batman character too? The writers are definitely setting up a tone of fear for the season between this storyline and the Scarecrow.
The third episode in and we finally got our Oswald (Robin Lord Taylor) and Ed (Cory Michael Smith) reunion and it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. Ed is still thawing from his time frozen. Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself. I don’t believe that he won’t tell a riddle ever again. He’ll come back, it will just take time. It was an interesting reunion because Ed didn’t shoot Oswald and Oswald didn’t re-freeze Ed. According to Oswald, Ed is gone. It almost seemed like the closure Oswald needed. Oswald is in love with the real Ed and that Ed isn’t here right now. So, I’m sure when Ed returns, things will get interesting between these two again, not that they aren’t now.
We also got our Barbara (Erin Richards) and Jim (Ben McKenzie) reunion. Jim did notice she was different but didn’t really take much thought of it and moved on. I don’t think Barbara will ever be over Jim but he’s clearly moved on from her.
Sophia (Crystal Reed) is definitely a Falcone and she’s playing Penguin. She’s playing all innocent just like she did with Jim but for very different reasons. Sophia is not stupid but she’s happy to let Oswald think she is. She knows how to work those tears a little too well. What is her overall plan? She clearly has one. Oswald definitely doesn’t suspect her, so now she can make her move.
I’m really loving Crystal in this role. I’m not sure if we can trust her or what side she’s really playing for but yet again, another woman falls for Jim. They just can’t help but fall for the boy scout.
