No one is innocent this season on Riverdale. Let the drama and mayhem begin!
Betty (Lili Reinhart) has been pretty fierce in getting what she wants in the past but she may have just crossed the line. Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) is no saint but she didn’t deserve to be blackmailed even if it helped Jughead’s dad in the end. This Vixen knows how to get the job done. She lied under oath. It was pretty amazing how she came up with that lie on the fly. It’s interesting seeing no one control her this season. Imagine what her mother would have said if she still had any control over Cheryl. It would probably be a lot worse than what Mrs. Cooper (Mädchen Amick) said to Betty.
I’m not a fan of Betty’s mom but she did bring up some good points. Not that any of what happened is actually Betty’s fault. It was just the circumstances that her friends are in and she just got put right in the middle. Because Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is one of the Serpents now, I’m sure they thought they could just roll into Pop’s like it was nothing. And as for Hiram (Mark Consuelos), he’s trying to get in good favor with his daughter and he managed to do that while being self-serving too.
Maybe I was wrong about everyone not being innocent this season. Veronica (Camila Mendes) seems to be the most innocent and she didn’t arrive to Riverdale very innocent. She’s definitely grown but unfortunately, her parents haven’t. She wants so desperately to believe that her dad is trying and Jughead’s advice didn’t help. I get where Jughead is coming from but Hiram is not changing his ways and if Veronica isn’t careful, he’ll drag her down too. Maybe that’s when Veronica goes dark too.
Archie’s (K.J. Apa) actions just kept getting worse throughout the episode. First, he was going to take drugs so he could stay awake and then he bought a gun. If you don’t know what you are doing with a gun it’s very dangerous. He’s going to end up hurting himself or someone else and not the man he intends to protect him and his father from. While his fear isn’t totally wrong, considering this masked man just killed two more people. But other than Archie almost buying drugs from one of them, what’s their real connection? Veronica gave some great advice about seeing a therapist or at least the counselor. There’s no shame in seeking help, especially after what he’s been through. If only that wasn’t looked down upon he might have made it through the door and maybe be in a much better state than he is now but then what fun would that be? We were told he was going down a dark path this season and he certainly is.
Jughead is more inadvertently putting himself down that dark path. Didn’t he learn his lesson from going to the Serpents for help last time? A man ended up being tortured in his home. This time he owes a favor to a dangerous woman. Never accept help when it comes with “you owe me nothing but I will ask you a favor next time”. That can never lead to anything good, never.
