My one complaint about Gotham has been how quickly the characters are becoming who we know they are going to become. A lot of the villains get knocked down so that definitely halts their progress. I would say Bruce (David Mazouz) and Selina (Camren Bicondova) are the characters I felt were moving the fastest, maybe that’s because they are also so young. While this statement may still be true, I’ll be very happy if Bruce is done with the party boy. It does not suit him at all. Yes, I realize that is his cover in the future, but he’s certainly not party boy 24/7 then. I’ve hated this Bruce and I’ll be happy when he gets back to the young man we love.
Who knew getting drugged would send Bruce into a psychedelic dream state where he saw himself as Batman and his future. He sees Alfred (Sean Pertwee) helping him become the hero and he sees Jim (Ben McKenzie) with the mustache, that was too funny. I thought this dream also meant that Alfred would be coming home but not so fast. The preview shows Alfred not wanting to forgive him yet. As long as Bruce is done with the party boy, I’m happy to move on to the next part.
What we were most looking forward to this episode was Oswald (Robin Lord Taylor), of course. Well, Oswald and Jerome (Cameron Monaghan). I did not like Penguin being made a fool of but in Oswald fashion, he didn’t let Jerome make a fool of him for long. And once Penguin started fighting back, their scenes together were epic. Jerome thinks he
brought him back but really it was Ed (Cory Michael Smith). And Nygmobblepot is alive and well. Ed may not be himself yet but he’s being drawn to Oswald and for good reasons, and he’s also helping him, whether he means to or not. So not only did we get Oswald back, we also got a great scene with Nygmobblepot. The writers were certainly giving us what we want this episode.
I’m not so sure how I feel about this new Ivy (Peyton List). It’s still too early to make a decision. I guess really, I didn’t like how she manipulated Fox (Chris Chalk). I did like that it brought Jim and Selina together and running from the cops. That turned out to be a fun scene. Neither one of them could sell, “Ivy’s cool”. Really, Gotham is at it’s best when a hero and villain come together and have to work together. Wouldn’t mind Penguin and Jim working together again, soon.
