This episode was seriously all about the ships. One giving you more feels than the next.
The episode started out with each of the three ships. First with Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) taking Alec (Matthew Daddario) to a Warlock party, to pass on the torch. One of the fellow warlocks thought Magnus brought Alec to annoy the new high warlock, but Magnus’s replied: “No, I brought him because he’s my boyfriend.” I loved how many normal couple things our ships were doing this week.
Next up was Maia (Alisha Wainwright) and Simon (Alberto Rosende). What first was Maia desperately trying to figure out what the Seelie Queen did to him, turned into a nice romantic moment for them.
The next was probably the sweetest of all three. Jace (Dominic Sherwood) asked Clary (Kat McNamara) out on their first date. It dawned on me that these two haven’t even been on a date yet. As much as we’ve been shipping them since the beginning, I was surprised but then I remembered all the ups and downs, and I was just so happy it was finally happening. Their storyline was definitely the sweetest. Jace wanted so desperately to take Clary on the perfect date. First, he went to Izzie (Emeraude Toubia). Then he even went to Simon. That was the funniest. Simon is the sweetest. He asks how Jace got his number but continued to help him anyway.
I guess since he asked Simon for help, it should come as no surprise that Maia, Simon, Jace and Clary, ended up at the same restaurant. This scene has played out in many shows before but it’s always funny and awkward. This time it was Maia that called for cocktails. After drinks were served, things weren’t going too bad, until Jace had to let it slip that he’s slept with Maia. Awkward.
For the most part, since we met Jace he’s been a pretty cool, confident guy. Not anymore. He cares so much about Clary that he’s terrified. I’m sure his visions of killing Clary are not helping that either. Whatever the cause of his fear, it brought us one of the best moments for Clace yet. I’m happy this couple is finally together and finally being able to build a relationship.
Maia and Simon also had a lot of cute couple moments. For the most part, they had a lot of normal couple moments. I loved when a werewolf was giving her the evil eye and she stood up for her and Simon. You really don’t mess with Maia. The werewolves really weren’t having it. They tried to attack Simon but whatever the Seelie Queen did, it protected him. I’m happy he’s okay but worried about what she did to him.
The power couple of the episode was definitely Malec. Magnus’s father was suspected to be back and Magnus was suspected to be involved by the new high warlock. So, Magnus and Alec teamed up to find out what was going on. It wasn’t his father though, Magnus said it was worse. The other shadowhunters weren’t having their plan but somehow, these two pulled it off. It’s really nice to see these two not just back together but working really well together.
The new enemy is not defeated yet but they did win this battle. Alec may not have his shadowhunters under control this season but the couples are certainly working well together.
