I’ve been excited and sad for the final season of The Originals for months but I had no idea what that would look like. I knew the Mikaelsons couldn’t stay apart for that long. They are always drawn to each other. When we left off, Vincent warned that they could never be together again, so what would bring them back together and who would free them from the Hollow?
It only seems fitting that we start off with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) acting mad. I don’t think we’ve ever seen him eat a heart before. Is this what happens when he’s separated from his siblings for seven years? Has he gone mad or is it all for show, like Caroline (Candice King) pondered? It might be partly for show. As Klaus said, it passes the time. But he is going a little crazy when he got that close to Elijah(Daniel Gillies). Clearly, when we saw Klaus watching over Elijah, that wasn’t the last time he made a visit.
Caroline may have only made a quick visit but when she speaks, Klaus listens, and we were all waiting for this Klaroline reunion.
Klaus may not have had much contact with Hope (Danielle Rose Russell), but she’s clearly taking after her father. We took one look at her and I saw Klaus. In our first introduction to her, she makes a hybrid. The Hope we know has changed.
Hope has set off a chain of events but Klaus started them before she did. When Klaus was too close to Elijah, flowers started dying and not just where he was, where all the siblings were. Hope being suspended, brought her back to New Orleans, which is another thing that wasn’t supposed to happen. Hope creating a hybrid has made the vampires angry but for someone reason, no one ever thought of the boy and what his transition could be like. He killed someone, of course. I have no idea why no one saw that coming. This may or may not have had something to do with Hayley’s (Phoebe Tonkin) disappearance. I will get back to that.
We had some big couple moments this episode. Freya (Riley Voelkel) is finally choosing love. But let’s see how long that lasts. Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) asked Rebekah (Claire Holt) to marry him in the best proposal ever and she didn’t answer and then she stood him up at city hall. He told her, “We are either all in, or we’re done. The choice is your’s.” She chose her family. She went to go see Elijah. I was so happy that Marcel and Rebekah were the endgame and she had to go and break my heart. Can Marcel forgive her?
Let’s get back to Hayley. She’s missing, so Klaus is coming back. There is always something that brings this family back together, even if it isn’t the best thing. But I believe one of them will be able to save them.
We also had some cute moments. When Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) said Freya and him were a team and when Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) was giving Hope advice when we know he isn’t the best person to give advice.
