Julie Plec keeps leaving us wanting more as the credits fade in. It’s hard not to just want to press play on the next episode, and then you realize, you have to wait until the next one airs.
I was excited to go back to Mystic Falls High School. There are so many memories there. This generation made some memories of their own, even though, I don’t think they would like to remember all of them.
My first thought in the opening scene of this episode was, are we finally going to get to see more of MG (Quincy Fouse)? The writers didn’t disappoint. I loved that he’s reading The Flash and having nightmares about it Grodd, and then about Ghostface. I love how innocent he is. I loved how we got to see his geeky side when he figured out what type of monster we were dealing with this week, a spider from a comic book.
This was all great, but the writers gave us more. Kaleb was not happy about MG outing him to Lizzie (Jenny Boyd). He continued hounding MG for numerous things. One, for letting Lizzie boss him around. Two, about vampires sticking together. While I may agree slightly with Lizzie bossing him around, I didn’t agree with Kaleb’s (Chris De’Sean Lee) stance about them being vampires and they should all stick together. That was the same stupid line with the werewolves had this episode. Have any of these kids seen Teen Wolf? You can make your own pack. And also, in The Vampire Dairies, Caroline dated a werewolf. You don’t have to stick to your own kind.
I hope MG didn’t take all the words Kaleb said to heart, especially the part about him being Alaric’s (Matthew Davis) errand boy. I liked that MG was sticking up for himself and Lizzie, but he got quiet when Kaleb suggested they were drinking rabbit blood. All I have to say to that is, if it was good enough for Stefan, it’s good enough for them. He did save all of Mystic Falls, and his brother many, many times.
This was an interesting turn of events. I didn’t expect Alaric to be feeding them animal blood, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but Caroline does have regular blood bags. Maybe they thought if they can get them on the Stefan diet early, they would potentially stop the creation of more rippers. I’m definitely interested to see what MG does with this knowledge, and if they expand on that more.
If that wasn’t an interesting enough twist, Alaric had quite the confrontation with Matt (Zach Roerig). Matt stops Kaleb to answer some questions, and when Alaric says he’ll handle it, Kaleb outs himself for feeding on the cheerleaders. Matt stabs Kaleb with vervain before he has a chance to get to Matt.
Matt’s ready to go after the kids, but Alaric isn’t having it. I’d hate to see Alaric and Matt up against each other, but that looks like where it’s going. These are kids, though. I can’t imagine Sherrif Forbes going after kids.
We also learned something else interesting, Josie (Kaylee Bryant) is a siphon. I assumed she was a full-blown witch. Kai is their uncle, so I guess we can’t be too surprised.
We still don’t know what Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) is. Does he have anything to do with the knife and monsters coming after it? Elena was connected with a lot of things she had no control over, so he may have a similar fate.
In the last few episodes, I thought there was hope for Josie and Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) and now I think there might be hope for Lizzie and Hope. There was something about the way Lizzie looked at Hope when hope she was telling MG what to tell the girl about loss. I think Lizzie was starting to realize how much Hope has been through. And I really loved the three of them working together. Maybe there is hope for all of them.
