Season seven of Arrow started strong. Oliver was dealing with things he’s never had to before, and it brought the show to a new level. Ever since Oliver got out of prison, the show has seemed a bit lost.
We knew that once Oliver (Stephen Amell) outed himself as the Green Arrow, things were never going to be the same. I was nervous about what came next. How could we have a show about the Green Arrow if we knew who the Green Arrow was, and vigilantism is illegal?
The writers making Oliver work with SCPD was definitely a start, but it’s just not the show we fell in love with. OTA is still separated. NTA is also separated. Things are just a mess.
This isn’t the first show I’ve loved to lose its way, and I stuck with them and I was rewarded for it. So, for now, I will leave it up to the writers and have faith that they will lead us to what’s next. It’s no surprise if this is the transition period.
There were good parts of this episode, though. Oliver had some great moments. For the first time, he’s opening up. He’s not bottling things up. He’s actually opening up. He’s grown a lot over the last seven seasons.
I’m so in love with the Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) scenes. I didn’t think I would be shipping these BFFs but Emily and Katie have such good chemistry on screen. I used to love every time Felicity and Curtis (Echo Kellum) were on screen together, but I may love Felicity and Laurel more.
I also love what the writers are doing with Laurel. I hated that they brought an Earth 2 Laurel into the mix and she was evil but she has so much depth to her. I definitely want to see where the writers take her character.
For a moment, I thought the writers let Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) get away. I was livid. I’m so over Diaz but then it was just Curtis messing with his mind, and that was fun.
I’m not sure what I think about John (David Ramsey) and Lyla’s (Audrey Marie Anderson) storyline. It could have potential, but I’m not feeling it right now.
What I’m most upset about is how the writers are underutilizing Emily. I’m loving her with Laurel and we did get some great Olicity scenes, but where’s her storyline? I want the writers to do more with her. She shouldn’t just be Oliver’s wife or Laurel’s friend. The writers should sue her more.
