The promo for this week’s Arrow did not do it justice. This was not the episode I thought we were going to see this week. It was so much more.
We thought we were getting an episode about a guy that was hunting down vigilantes, but that wasn’t quite it. That’s what it appeared to be on the surface. That’s certainly what all the characters thought but they also knew that they were missing a piece of the puzzle.
While Curtis (Echo Kellum), John (David Ramsey), Rene (Rick Gonzalez) and Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) were off hunting the suspect, Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) were trying to figure out how to help William (Jack Moore).
As we last saw, William got expelled from school, and in this episode, he called his grandparents, who came to take him. While we have had a lot of good scenes with Felicity and William, I’m not upset that William will be going away for a while. This will let the writers tell better stories for these characters. It just doesn’t make sense for a kid to be in the picture right now.
And as I was thinking that in the episode, we got a huge reveal of Felicity being pregnant! And not just that, Katherine McNamara is playing their daughter, Maya. And Felicity is alive! If you are a Felicity fan or an Olicity fan, you will appreciate how excited I am right now. I never believed that Felicity could be dead, and it turns out she isn’t! I’m going to be celebrating every exciting Felicity news that we got this week.
I haven’t really been too interested in the flash forwards. I’ve enjoyed seeing Roy (Colton Haynes) and seeing Kat, but that’s about it. Now I’m intrigued to see where the future story takes us. I want to learn more about Oliver and Felicity’s child. But first, why is her last name Smoak? Not that that’s a bad thing. Maybe Felicity was being progressive. I just hope that it doesn’t mean there are bad roads ahead for Olicity.
Second, I can’t wait to see Oliver’s reaction to Felicity being pregnant. Of course, seeing as it’s right after they let William go live with his grandparents, it might not be great timing.
While we got a lot of good news this episode, we also found out Curtis is leaving. I love his one-liners but he hasn’t gotten a great storyline lately, so I guess it can’t come as too much of a surprise. I’ve missed his scenes with Felicity and the writers gave us one more before he leaves. Curtis said, “Maybe this is how Felicity Smoak will change the world.” I thought, does this mean the writers are finally going to do more with her character, as I was also tearing up at them saying goodbye. Curtis has given Felicity Helix, now we will see what she makes of it, and I’m very excited to watch.
Curtis was right, Felicity has struggled to find her way. I hope this and the baby help her get back to doing what she loves.
The villain in this episode is almost an afterthought, after everything that happened, and it was an exciting reveal. Stanley (Brendan Fletcher) was the one hunting them all down, but it was all because he felt like Oliver was his older brother. Suddenly everything that we saw in the prison came clear.
He also gives Dinah that nasty scar we see in the future. Somethings are starting to come together, but there are still a lot of questions.
