The closer we get to the season finale, the worse the city of Gotham gets. Jim will have to change his tactics if he wants to save his city.
The corruption has always run deep in Gotham, but now the city is cut off from the rest of the country, that corruption is coming from the outside. And as always, Jim (Ben McKenzie) is the thorn in the side of the corruption. He almost ruined all their plans when he set up Haven. Secretary Walker (Jaime Murray) was two steps ahead, though.
We were all excited for the introduction of Bane (Shane West), but it appears the real big bad this season is Walker. Bane is answering to her, and she’s orchestrating everything. I kind of love that our final big bad of Gotham is a woman. The female villains in this city have always been smart and badass. I’m looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us. At the same time, I hate her because she’s threatening all of our favorite characters.
Speaking of one of those brilliant female villains, Lee (Morena Baccarin) finally resurfaced. Walker’s secrets weapon. Just like Ed (Cory Michael Smith), Lee also had a chip in her brain, and she’s been hidden away for the last three months. It’s unclear what role she will play in the final season. She’s been the good guy and the bad guy (but still mostly good). Morena said at Payley Live that we can expect all the best parts of Lee this season. Now that she’s finally back, we can see what her last storyline will be.
She resurfaces, and Barbara (Erin Richards) announces she’s pregnant. Do we believe her? Barbara has had Jim’s back in the last few episodes, but I could see her lying. She’s always been jealous of Lee. One final season, and one final look at this love triangle.
My favorite part of this episode was Bruce (David Mazouz). He’s really become quite the vigilante. I’m loving seeing him and Alfred (Sean Pertwee) team up. When he first started his vigilantism, he wasn’t always on top of his game. He made mistakes and wasn’t good at reading people. All of that has changed. He’s matured into a remarkable young man. He’s also got Jim’s back, and I love that Jim is working with him and not just protecting him. I hope we get to see much more of this.
The final season is also bringing up some interesting pairings. Barbara, Jim and Ed made quite a good team. They made an even better team when they paired up with Bruce, Alfred and Lucius (Chris Chalk). Oswald (Robin Lord Taylor) and Selina (Camren Bicondova) were a lot of fun to see together, too, but I wouldn’t call them a good team. They are just using each other to get what they need. They have good chemistry together and while neither of them can trust each other, there’s a lot of laughs for us. I hope the writers keep them together for at least one more episode.
Everything is bad, or hell as Jim said, but now Alfred has been kidnapped and we’re about to find out what Jeremiah (Cameron Monaghan) had been up to. I’m worried about Alfred and excited to see what Jeremiah has been planning for the last three months. The intensity in this season keeps going up.
