With an episode filled with music, body snatching and revealed secrets, what more could you ask for?
For a second it may have seemed like the unicorn was the next monster, but Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) knew better. This week’s monster was a slug, ew. And it was infecting all the students. First, it makes you lose your inhibitions, and then it convinces you to go after the urn.
Hope was the first to be infected. While it was nice to see her happy, it was a little too much, and it was very unsettling. Next was Josie (Kaylee Bryant). The effect the slug had on her was a little different. It was more freeing than happy. She was tired of being miss perfect.
Kaleb (Chris De’Sean Lee) being infected led to an outstanding dancing and singing routine from the vampires.
Rafael (Peyton ‘Alex’ Smith) became artistic and truthful. He did a spoken word poetry act for the talent show, and now Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) and Hope know exactly how he feels. He tried to play it off like he couldn’t remember, but you could see on his face how hard this is for him.
Josie also dropped a bombshell, well it wasn’t news to us, but it was certainly a surprise that she said it. Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) asked her sister exactly what she thought of her, and Josie replied she was the worst sister. You would have thought that would have been some kind of revelation, but it wasn’t. The only reason Lizzie wasn’t infected was she was shocking herself all day for every mean comment she said, and that was the only thing that gets the slug to leave the host. After everything, Lizzie decided going full-on bitch was the best thing for her.
This episode was a lot of fun watching the characters do things they normally wouldn’t. It was also fun seeing Alaric (Matthew Davis) have a little fun for a change. Funny enough, he wasn’t even infected. Emma (Karen David) was, and she was leading the way for their day drinking and karaoke. I think Alaric needed to let loose for once.
Alaric may not have been affected when he was acting a little strange, but at the end of the episode, the slug did infect Alaric. Losing his inhibitions led to getting rid of the urn. He wasn’t lying when he told Emma the reason why he’s so hard on himself was that a lot of kids are counting on him. I’m not sure what this means now that it will be easier for the monsters to get the urn.
The best part of the episode was when Josie was finally front and center. She led the witches musical number and she was wonderful. I hope the words she sang are true and she is going to let herself shine from now on, and not let Lizzie hog the spotlight all the time.
