I don’t remember if the first time I saw Luke Perry was in Beverly Hills 90210 or the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. I remember watching the film multiple times on TV, and Luke playing Pike was the first time I thought a biker guy was cute.
I started watching 90210 way too young. The first episode I ever watched was the season four finale where David cheats on Donna, and that was it, I was hooked. I continued to watch the show. Let’s not do the math, but I’m telling you, I was way too young to watch this show. I have no idea how I got away with it. Since then I’ve watched the entire series multiple times, and I own every season.
Luke played Dylan McKay. I loved his character because of how complex he was. His storyline had so many ups and downs, and you were rooting for him all the way. He was the cool guy, but also smart, and a great best friend.
90210 is one of my all-time favorite shows, so when I found out Luke was going to be on Riverdale, I was very excited. Then once again, he was playing a great character.
It meant so much to me to be able to interview him at San Deigo Comic-Con and New York Comic-Con last year. To get to interview someone from one of the first shows I ever watched was an incredible experience.
He was also such a great interview. He was excited and ready to talk. He loved talking about Riverdale, and he loved reminiscing about 90210.
I think Luke passing would have always made me sad, but meeting him and looking him in the eyes, has definitely hit me hard. It’s hard to believe that he was right in front of him in October, and now he’s gone. I really feel for his family and friends. There are no words that can help. We can just remember him for who he was and all that he gave us.
So, I’m going to reminisce over some of my favorite moments from 90210 and Riverdale:
Dylan telling Andrea that he wants to write his story
Up to this point, Dylan was the friend and the heartthrob that came between Kelly and Brenda, but then we finally got to delve deep into Dylan.
Dylan takes AP English
Speaking of delving deep into Dylan. How did we miss how smart he was?
Dylan saving David
This was an intense scene and made Dylan become one of my favorite characters. He had always been there for Brandon, but it was incredible how he was there for David. He was risking himself too, seeing as the police could show up any second.
Dylan coming back to 90210
Dylan and Kelly in the series finale
Every Fred and Archie scene on Riverdale
You can’t really choose just one scene between Fred and Archie. Luke and K.J. Apa had incredible chemistry on screen. Fred did anything to protect Archie, and Archie did anything to protect his dad. It will be sad not to see these two on screen together anymore.
