I don’t know why I didn’t see this before, but Riverdale is a lot like Pretty Little Liars. Instead of an ‘A’, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and Archie are chasing down various mysteries. They also live in a surreal universe that clearly is not possible, and we simply just accept it. And we’re sitting on the edge of our seats as we watch.
Each season has gotten more surreal. The writers are testing the limits and while there were moments in this season that I didn’t really like, the finale was the best one yet.
The Farm was my least favorite part of this season. I hated what it did to Kevin (Casey Cott). He’s such a great character but the writers ruined him. It was such an exhausting and annoying storyline, but it all makes sense now that we’ve come to the end. Alice (Mädchen Amick) found her long lost son Charles, who happens to be an FBI agent, and went undercover. It makes me feel so much better about Alice. She was going a little nutty. But now Alice is missing and Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) have to help their half brother find her.
I was just thinking while watching this episode that some seasons are better once you’ve seen it all, and this was definitely one of those seasons. Not that there weren’t some great moments throughout, because there were.
It was fun and nerve-wracking watching Veronica (Camile Mendes), Betty, Jughead and Archie (K.J. Apa) go on their last quest. This show is definitely best when it has its central four as a team. It was absurd but what teenager wouldn’t want to go on a quest like that with their best friends. We all craved adventure.
Another aspect of this episode that reminded of PLL was them ruining great formal wear. No one ruined formal wear like the liars, until now.
We’ve known who the Black Hood was but we finally found out the Gargoyle King was Chic. He was more of a puppet than anything, the real Queen was Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt). It was shocking and not, all at the same time. And we haven’t heard the last of her.
I never believed that we really had Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos). He’s too well connected to stay down for long. I’m worried about what his revenge against Veronica will be. I wasn’t too upset that he got Hermione (Marisol Nichols) arrested. Just feel for Veronica that both her parents are in jail.
Looks like Betty is staying with Jughead, will Veronica be staying with Archie? There are a lot fewer parents around. Not that most of them were very good, to begin with.
They make a pact to enjoy their senior year but flash forward to Spring Break and they are all covered in blood, except Jughead, all there is of him is his hat. Which has me very worried. Whatever is ahead of them is much darker than anything we’ve seen yet. They may have killed someone and plan to go their separate ways after graduation. They were supposed to be best friends forever. We’ll just have to wait and see what season four has in store for us.
