‘The Bold Type’ Review: Where do our Ladies go From Here?

This was not The Bold Type episode I thought we had in store for us this week. We got a lot of surprises that left us with a lot of questions for the finale. I may not have liked every turn, but I enjoyed the journey, and I think the writers are setting us up for something very special for the season three finale.

Just a couple of days ago I told my friend I didn’t think Kat (Aisha Dee) would win, but during this episode, I was not only convinced she was going to win, but I also wanted her to win. The show is based on the magazine Cosmopolitan, so these ladies can’t stay away for too long, if at all.

I felt that punch of disappointment that Kat was probably feeling. I love when shows get me to feel. It’s one of the reasons I love Supernatural. We know that Sam and Dean can’t really die, because there will be no show, but that doesn’t stop me from being terrified for them every time they are saving the world. It was the same here. I knew Kat couldn’t win, but that didn’t stop me from rooting her on and feeling that sting when she didn’t.

I’m sure Kat will rise again, but next week seems to be all about choosing between Adena (Nikohl Boosheri) and Tia (Alexis Floyd).

We shouldn’t be that surprised that Ryan (Dan Jeannotte) kissed another girl. Between his book, that interview and his past, we just shouldn’t be surprised. I knew something was up when he called Jane (Katie Stevens). That wasn’t an “I miss you”, call. And as soon as he showed up at Kat’s election party I felt it in my gut something was wrong. Jane is a lot stronger than she was with her ex and I’m not sure they can survive this. Should they survive this? In the finale, we will get to see how one of our girls deals with being cheated on. Yes, it was only a kiss, but it still stings.

Sutton (Meghann Fahy) had the most inspirational storyline this week. I can’t imagine how young people grow up in a world of Instagram. Even I have to tell myself not to compare myself to the posts I see. How is a young girl like Carly (Kiara Groulx) supposed to navigate that? I loved how Sutton talked to her and got her to take the school picture. I loved even more how that sparked an idea to have her friends be the models!

It’s not a stretch on this show to have real models but as we know, the fashion world hasn’t exactly embraced that yet. I’m very excited to see how her show goes, and I know it’s the right thing to do.

Sutton is about to embark on a career-defining moment for her designer career, while Richard (Sam Page) is getting offered to run the company he always dreamed of, but in San Francisco. He said no, but what does this really mean for my favorite couple?

As I said, a lot of questions for the season finale. And who knows how many cliffhangers that will leave us with.
