Veronica has been trying to break from her parents since season one, and now she may be finally cutting ties with them and changing her name to Veronica Gomez, her mom’s maiden name.
Veronica (Camila Mendes) will still be the badass we fell in love with no matter what name she goes by, but there was just a certain ring to Veronica Lodge. She was the chic and stylish businesswoman, the caring girlfriend, and best friend. And let’s face it, Ronnie really is a Lodge. Her dad may have caused the mess she was in, but she manipulated her way out of the mess.
Or maybe that’s half the problem. It was after Hiram (Mark Consuelos) said she was a Lodge that she wanted to change her name. She doesn’t want to be that person anymore. But who will she be then?
I love the Veronica that we have watched over the last three seasons. She’s strong, smart, and ambitious. I’m not opposed to her growing. She’s grown a lot over the previous three seasons, and I’m sure with both parents in jail and her cutting ties, she’s going to continue to grow.
Does a name change mean a new Veronica? How much of her identity is tied in the last name, Lodge?
Archie (K.J. Apa) said, so I’m dating Veronica Gomez, who is she?” Veronica replies, saying she’s going to find out.
I have mixed feelings about this scene. Either it’s just Veronica having a fresh start, or there really will be a change in her character.
I love her, so I’ll go on this journey with her, whether I like the ending or not. It won’t be the first time I didn’t like who she became, but she went back to being the Veronica I loved.
Are you here for Veronica taking her mom’s maiden name, or do you think she’ll always be a Lodge? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me @MandyTTCarr.
