In the penultimate episode, it seemed like we were in for an action-packed season finale. The action mostly took place in the first 10 minutes, but it was still very intense.
The most significant part of the episode was between Liz (Jeanine Mason) and Max (Nathan Parsons). It seemed like this time, Liz and Max would be driving off into the sunset together, but instead, she’s driving off alone again.
He may have started out trying to protect Liz, but it quickly turned into him defending himself and his family. He didn’t destroy her research to protect her. He did it for himself.
I appreciate this twist in their relationship. Liz needs to go back to who she is, a scientist.
I love how Carina Adly MacKenzie likes to tell stories of overcoming. Of Liz struggling and finding success in her work and fighting for her father. Of Alex (Tyler Blackburn) dealing with his past and finally being able to accept himself. Of Isobel (Lily Cowles) finding out where she came from and coping with her trauma and also finding herself.
These are great storylines, and they don’t always have to end in the couple getting together. Isobel is single and happier than we’ve ever seen her. I do hope she finds love one day, but I’m satisfied with season two’s storyline for her.
I was glad Liz didn’t go running back to Max when Rosa (Amber Midthunder) told her to. I don’t think he will follow her this time. Max is on a journey to find out where he came from. Maybe when he finds himself, then Liz and Max can find their way back to each other.
I do wonder how Liz ends up back in Roswell because we all know she won’t stay gone forever.
Who knew Max’s path would lead him to an evil twin. So many questions here. Has he been trapped there this whole time? Why hasn’t he aged? Does he still have his powers? In what way is he related to Max? I think they should have listened to Isobel and figured out what was in there first, but then we wouldn’t have that great cliffhanger, though, it does suck that we have to wait about a year to find out what’s next.
One of the best moments of this episode was when Alex was singing a song about Michael (Michael Vlamis) during the open mic night. His voice was incredible, and the emotion on Michael and Alex’s faces were powerful. Scenes like this are why Malex has become the fan-favorite ship on the show.
I’m not 100 % sure why it can’t be there time yet, but it was so heartwarming to see Alex come out in public. He’s no longer afraid to be who he is, and I’m ready to see where his story goes next. It was a bittersweet moment for nearing the end of the episode. We were all rooting for Malex to get back together, though, this ending was still excellent for Alex.
