It wasn’t that long ago that we celebrated our favorite couple’s wedding bliss, and now, we are shocked to our core that Suttard might not be always and forever.
We knew this was a big fight for Suttard. It was one of those deal-breakers, but it’s Sutton’s (Meghann Fahy) body and her choice to be a mom. But, she also can’t take that choice away from Richard (Sam Page) either.
I have very mixed feelings about this storyline. On the one hand, I love that The Bold Type writers are telling the story of a young woman putting her career first and not wanting kids. As I said last week, not every woman wants to have kids, and that’s okay. Some women want to put their careers first, and this is something I relate to in my own life.
On the other hand, I’ve loved Suttard since day one. I’ve been rooting for them through all the ups and downs. I was so happy that they found what seemed to be their happily ever after. I want Suttard to be end game, but how can they find their way back together when they aren’t even on the same page?
One of the reasons I love Sutton so much is because she stands up for what she wants. She wants the guy to want her, not just settle for her. She’s so independent and secure with herself. She inspires me every week.
From episode one, she told Richard she wanted to be the girl he couldn’t stop thinking about. She didn’t just want to be a fling, and I loved that. That is the moment I fell in love with her character.
I believe Sutton will come through this because she wouldn’t want Richard to sacrifice being a father for her, and she can stand on her own. But they are also so in it now. She’s so in love with him that it’s not going to be an easy road for her.
Life isn’t easy, and it’s great when The Bold Type shows that. Jacqueline (Melora Hardin) is trying to repair her marriage, and we see how difficult it is to do that and be Editor-in-Chief of a magazine. It’s not easy having it all, and it’s great that the writers are shining a light on that.
I love that the writers are showing the insecurities men have when dating a more successful woman. Yes, he should just support her and deal with it, but it’s more complicated than that. At least Alex (Matt Ward) is trying.
While it’s incredible that Sutton is this wonderfully independent and strong woman, and it’s great that a woman is getting shown as putting her career first instead of rushing to have a family, did the writers have to tear apart the fans’ favorite couple?
I’m brokenhearted and shocked that Richard left Sutton. I thought they were forever. Will fans remain loyal to the show after splitting these two up?
