From the moment I saw that Joseph Morgan was in Brave New World, I knew I was going to watch it. I had to see his new role after loving him in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.
Joseph appears to have a small role, but it’s something of consequence, seeing he’s at the scene of a significant event at the beginning of the pilot.
The beginning of the pilot introduces you to this brave new world and the order of rankings for the people, starting with the Alpha plus.
Joseph’s character, CJack60, is an E, he’s way down on the class order. Everyone seems to be happy until things start falling apart. You learn quickly that monogamous relationships are not allowed because they are supposed to belong to everyone.
They also don’t have much privacy, with their movements always being tracked.
Brave New World is not a family show. I was not expecting so much nudity in the first episode. Sometimes I feel streamers or premium cable channels put in way too much nudity just because they can.
After we get a glimpse of the new world order, we see what’s left of the rest of the people who live in the old ways. The ‘Savages’ as the brave new world people call them are living in a rundown world, but are in control of their emotions.
Something happened for the world to get so rundown and a new world to get built out of it. But what happened and why some people are in the futuristic world is not explained yet.
The pilot leaves questions unanswered to how and what happened, but it also shows that the experiment is failing. They are supposed to take a pill to make themselves feel happy all the time, but the pills are no longer working on some people.
While Joseph’s character barely speaks in the pilot, his facial expressions show so much. I will admit if I didn’t love the actor, this alone wouldn’t be enough to make me intrigued by his character, but I want to get to know who this new character he’s playing is.
The writers give you just enough of a taste of the main characters to leave you wanting more. Lenina Crowne (Jessica Brown Findlay), Bernard Marx (Harry Lloyd), and John the Savage (Alden Ehrenreich) like compelling and complex characters who are right at the center at the crisis just starting. It’s hard to give away too much about these characters without spoiling anything.
The first episode of Brave New World is enough for you to sign up for the seven-day free trial to continue watching, but beware, if you like watching TV on an actual TV, you may not be able to. The app is on limited Smart TVs, and you can watch it on your laptop, but when you hook the HDMI cable to your TV, it’s not compatible.
It’s hard to believe that NBCUniversal didn’t make Peacock adaptable for the TV, especially when they will be playing sports on the streamer as well.
If you like watching on your phone or your laptop, you will be just fine.
While I want to see Joseph Morgan evolve in this role and check out a couple of other things on the service, not being able to watch it on my TV may mean getting rid of the streamer pretty quickly.
More Peacock reviews to come!
