As Veronica told her mom that something happened between Betty and Archie and cried into her mom’s lap, my heart broke, and I wondered if Varchie was no longer end game.
Just because we knew the Varchie break-up was coming didn’t mean it was any easier to get through.
The promo previewed Veronica (Camila Mendes) crying, so we knew this was the episode it would come crashing down.
It broke my heart to see Veronica like this. My heart was breaking even before that scene. It started breaking when Veronica sang Archie’s (K.J. Apa) song for Betty (Lili Reinhart).
Veronica spent the episode trying to help Archie get into the Naval Academy. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to win the boxing match that would have secured him that spot.
But Veronica wasn’t done helping her man. I’ve always loved how fiercely she fights for Archie. Since his father died, he hasn’t had much direction, understandably. But Veronica has supported him in every decision or whim he’s had.
Hiram (Mark Consuelos) has even become supportive of the relationship. And this time, he was there for Archie with a job offer, deputy mayor. Archie really messed up by betraying Veronica. He didn’t know how good he had it.
Once again, Veronica was going to support her man. This time by deferring Barnard for a year to support his next step.
Archie and Veronica were dancing at their prom, and Archie couldn’t let Veronica defer her dream. So he told her what happened.
While I commend Archie for coming clean, I hate that it happened in the first place.
Why did the writers have to mess up these two ships? The writers shut down Barchie in the first season. Since then, it’s been clear that it’s Bughead and Varchie.
I’m mad not just because this breaks up our favorite couple but also because this leaves Veronica so alone. She’s hurt not only by her boyfriend but also by her best friend. How will this affect her character moving forward? High school is almost over, so she won’t have to be in the middle of this for too long, but it takes away all the good memories.
I’m still a huge Veronica fan, but Archie has lost a lot of my respect.
I’m excited to see what Veronica accomplishes when we jump forward. For now, I wish I could hold her close while she has to get through the last few weeks of high school.
Will Varchie ever find their way back together? Or did the writers make that impossible now?
