The Resident can’t really be losing two of its best characters! There’s a last-minute thing that keeps them at Chastain, right? Just like they saved the hospital.
We kept thinking that Dr. Mina Okafor (Shaunette Renée Wilson) would find a way to stay. Then she decided to go back to Nigeria. Not just because she was out of options, but because her mom and country need her. I want to say I’m surprised that Dr. AJ Austin (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) is going with her, but I’m not. I’m just sad. The Resident won’t be the same without Mina and AJ.
They just had another amazing surgery where their chemistry was on point, as always. I love them. We can’t lose them.
While I’m in shock that Mina and AJ might actually be leaving, I was in tears that Dr. Jake Wong (Conrad Ricamora) and Gregg (Christopher J. Hanke) lost their baby. They were so ready for her. The joy on their faces when they got to hold her for the first time was indescribable. But because their baby’s mom’s parents want her baby to go to a traditional family, they didn’t get to keep her.
What is traditional even more? Some women decide never to have kids or to have a kid by themselves. And isn’t it incredible that this baby would get two loving parents?
It’s a topic that The Resident hasn’t covered before, but I’m glad that it is. It’s outrageous that the parent’s prejudice robbed them of their chance at being parents. Yes, they will get another chance, but it’s heartbreaking to see their baby taken away from them. They had already become her parents.
I love that Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) is getting closer to Jake. First, with anticipating that he and Gregg would want whiskey and not wine. And let’s take a moment to celebrate that he actually had dinner with them! And Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves) came along. Seriously, when are they just going to make it official? They are already acting like a couple.
Later on, Bell tried to convince the girl’s parents with a heartwarming speech, but their prejudice was too much.
Bell had fought so hard in the OR, making sure both the girl and the baby came out alive. It was so close. And Bell’s face looked like he lost at least one of them.
It’s a heartbreaking story, but the actors and writers are telling an important message.
And Dr. Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal) does not have a little prince. That was the most likely of outcomes, but oh, did it segway nicely into him actually letting someone arrange a marriage for him.
One of his patients was a matchmaker for Indians. And, of course, Nadine Suheimat (Shazi Raja) had just been set up and now had a beautiful baby boy.
Raj on The Big Bang Theory tried it. It didn’t go so well, but maybe Pravesh will have better luck?
And Irving Feldman (Tasso Feldman) and Jessica Moore (Jessica Miesel) finally got married! I’m a little upset that they didn’t have everyone with them, but I loved the quiet way they did it. At night, in an aquarium, so romantic. And she looked so beautiful. We needed that with all the turmoil and heartbreak from “Doors Opening, Doors Closing.”
