Even with Sutton and Richard’s difficulties, it always seemed like they were meant to be.
There was just one obstacle after another for them. First, Richard (Sam Page) was on the board, and she was an assistant. Even when Safford changed the rules and you just had to register your relationship with HR, that wasn’t enough because she was afraid her career wouldn’t be seen as earned.
Finally, she went for it. All seemed right in the world for Suttard. And then came the dreaded pregnancy scare.
At this point, I don’t want kids, so I loved that Sutton (Meghann Fahy) was feeling the same way that her career is more important to her.
But then why all that build-up for a short marriage and then divorce? This can’t be the end of Suttard that the writers envisioned from the beginning. Can it?
And this whole mess has our Sutton spiraling out of control. She almost blew the sizzle reel because she was starring at her phone waiting for a text from Richard that was never coming.
While I don’t like how our favorite stylist has been acting, it’s understandable. And probably more realistic than the Sutton we’ve seen the rest of the series.
I love The Bold Type because it inspires me. I watch Sutton go after her fashion dream. I watch Jane (Katie Stevens) rise through the ranks of Scarlet. Kat (Aisha Dee) was the first black woman, the head of a department at the magazine. These accomplishments are all inspiring, and it makes you want to go out and do great things.
But the reality is, we are not in this Bold Type world. It’s not as easy as this IRL. So maybe Kat losing her way and now bartending at a women’s club, Jane messing up on a huge story and Sutton being so distracted by her husband is more down to earth. It’s more relatable. It’s more realistic.
That doesn’t mean this is how I want our favorite ladies to end things. With only four episodes left, it’s hard to see how they all come out on top.
Alex (Matt Ward) is moving on. He’s moving on to Pinstripe to teach them how to be better men.
How these ladies come back from these setbacks is going to be what matters. Their actions are what are going to inspire us. And considering what we’ve all been going through during the pandemic, maybe a little inspiration to take us from the bottom to the top is exactly what we need right now.
Sutton made the perfect sizzle reel after all that. She got the courage to text Richard, only to be heartbroken in the end.
I’m not happy that this could be the end for one of our fave couples. They deserved all the happiness.
But how does Sutton rise up from this? She already has the fabulous stylist role. So, how can the writers end her story on a high note?
