It’s always interesting that when you know more about your enemy, they aren’t as scary. Before we met Klaus on The Vampire Diaries, he was terrifying. Now we love him.
We don’t love Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner), but there’s something about knowing Morgan Edge is also a Kryptonian and Kal-El’s (Tyler Hoechlin) half-brother that makes him a little less scary.
Edge certainly has a reason to hate the humans. He landed in the countryside in England. They hunted him, captured him, and did tests on him. Of course, he hates humans.
He’s taking it a little too far, bringing back his people’s consciousnesses into humans. And, of course, it had to be Kal-El’s mother that created the technology, and only she would be able to reverse it.
Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) stepped up to take Lara’s consciousness into her body. Edge’s army wasn’t on her, but she felt so guilty. I felt how scary it was in the scene leading up to her going into the machine. The Superman & Lois writers seriously know how to make you feel what they want to make you feel.
Emmanuelle was incredible in “O Mother, Where Art Thou?” She was taking the weight of the world on her shoulders, and she made you feel precisely why she felt it was her fight. Not only did she play Lana in this episode, but she also played Kal-El’s mother. She really stepped it up this week.
Lana has been such an integral part of this storyline. She was so brave to go undercover with an influential businessman, and now we find out he is a Kryptonian. Lois Lane (Bitsie Tulloch) is not the only badass woman on this show.
Lois, of course, had her own moment, as she always does. She went into the Cushing’s home to get Kyle (Erik Valdez). She was “checking in.” He began to choke both Lana and Lois, but Lois had a hidden kryptonite crystal and punched him with it. That was one serious punch! I know she had a weapon against him, but that was pretty brave to go in. Back-up was right outside and contained him right after, but still. He could have killed her.
I want Sarah (Inde Navarrette) to know the truth, and while she doesn’t know the whole truth, she at least knows what happened to her dad. Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) told her the truth because he was tired of all the lies, which is fair. And she deserved to know about what was going on with her father.
I like Inde. I would love to bring her into the fold more, especially since her mother is already there, well, partially. I mean, they clearly can’t go around revealing their father’s identity. One day we will get there, but clearly not in season one.
Superman & Lois loves to hit us with the family moments. This week it was with Kal-El and his mother. It was a little weird with her being in Lana, but it was so good to see him get to talk to his mother again. He doesn’t remember much about her because he was so young. It’s like when Sam got to meet his mother on Supernatural. They have this vision in their heads of their mom, and it’s beautiful to see them see the truth because it’s so much better. Meeting his mother was skewed for Superman because his mom wasn’t in her body, but he got to talk to her.
Kal-El may not have had that much time with his parents, but their values have stuck. His parents were all about making the world better. I didn’t love that they had arranged marriages, but I love that Lara fell in love with Jor-El, so she left her arranged marriage. I’m also glad she knows that her son created the life for himself that she always hoped for.
Sarah also got a great moment with her father when he was back. She was so close to losing both parents. It brought me so much joy when she got her father back. Kyle was still locked up, but they both put their hands on the glass. It was such a sweet moment. Hopefully, after this experience, he will be better for his daughters and his wife.
A not so joyful moment but just as good, when Jonathan stood up to his grandfather once again! We see more and more of Lois in him every week, and I love it.
Then we got another intense fight scene at the end. Superman had to use his power to create enough energy to reverse the effects of the machine. He missed one, Edge’s closest associate, Leslie (Stacey Farber).
Kal-El flew to the Fortress of Solitude. I guess to keep his people’s consciousnesses protected. It took a lot out of him, though. He collapsed when he got there.
I was a little surprised that everyone was saved that quickly and that Edge had already changed that many people. He is far from defeated, though, so we’ll just have to wait for his next move.
