After the intensity of “Defend the Ranch,” it was nice to have a sweet episode. Hoyt may not have been in Walker very much, but the writers gave him a great tribute to say goodbye to his character.
There’s something that feels so right with what Hoyt (Matt Barr) left behind. First, he wrote his will on a bar coaster, and second, leaving behind three horses and a llama, which turned out what an alpaca! We must all feel pretty silly saying how cute the llama was when she wasn’t even a llama.
But I have to say. After looking at pictures of both of them, they look pretty similar. But, of course, the writers knew we wouldn’t see the difference. The Walkers have two alpacas now, since mama alpaca gave birth, as Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) rescued her.
I can’t believe he was going to leave the alpaca with someone else. Hoyt left her to him and Geri (Odette Annable).
While it wasn’t on the happiest terms, it was nice to see Geri back on our screens.
I want her to be around more, but her relationship with Cordell is now very complicated. She feels guilty for saying ‘”no” to Hoyt’s proposal and underestimating him. That last moment is hard to live with.
At least Stella (Violet Brinson) got her closure with Trevor (Gavin Casalegno). She left a voicemail on his phone saying she has to leave the past in the past. That’s fair. There’s way too much baggage in their relationship now.
Stella and her father are a lot alike. They are both blaming themselves. What happened with Clint (Austin Nichols) isn’t on either of them. Stella fell in love with a boy, and Walker was just doing his job.
The Walker family needs healing. Bonham (Mitch Pileggi) and Abeline (Molly Hagan) are finally connecting again, and he’s getting treatment for his cancer. With everything they’ve been through even before Clint, it was nice to see them so happy.
Liam (Keegan Allen) needs physical healing as well as emotional, but I hope he continues to run for DA. I want to see him going after things for himself.
I lost it when I saw the pen had “In Memory of Our Boy Hoty Rawlins” engraved on the door. That was the absolute sweetest thing. “Mehar’s Jacket” was a collection of memories of Hoyt and the engraving made it a perfect tribute.
The episode wasn’t all bitter-sweet. We got a lot of Trey (Jeff Pierre)! He knew the guy that went missing, so he joined Micki (Lindsey Morgan) and Captain James (Coby Bell) on a case. He even took his shirt off for a moment. Can we please get more scenes that require him to be shirtless?
What was even better than that was seeing Micki jump in the fight to win the money for Lou (Alex Arvie), so he could save his home.
I felt for the guy. He’s a veteran with a head injury. He really couldn’t fight. It’s awful that he couldn’t get any help. These veterans fight for our country, and we do very little to help them if things go wrong.
It was nice that she won the money for him, but wow. We knew she was a badass, but we had no idea just how much! The writers were holding back on us! I want more episodes where we see this side of her.
I don’t know where Walker will go now that Cordell is not a ranger. The family stuff clearly can sustain us, but I like the intensity of the more action episodes. At least Micki is now family with Cordi, so we should see them on screen together.
