For weeks, pictures have been swirling around for Bethany Joy Lenz and Hilarie Burton’s guest appearance on Sophia Bush’s new show Good Sam. It was the One Tree Hill reunion we’ve been waiting for.
As you will remember, Joy played Haley James Scott, Hilarie played Petyon Sawyer and Sophia played Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill. Hilarie left the show in 2009, and Sophia and Joy stayed on until the end of the series in 2012. That means all three of them haven’t been on a screen together acting since 2009! Thirteen years was a long time for us to wait for our reunion, but it was well worth the wait.
Our incredible women were just as excited as we were, if not more. So they did another Drama Queens Live event. This time with proceeds going to Good Sports, Inc. The live event was a lot of fun with Bryan Greenberg making an appearance. He spoke about what he remembers being on the One Tree Hill set, fatherhood and current projects. Bryan will be in a movie dropping on Netflix soon with Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy. He’s also about to direct an indie. It’s hard to believe that Greenberg didn’t know what he was doing back in his days on One Tree Hill, but he certainly faked it until he made it. We sadly lost him when he got cast in a show with George Clooney. No big deal, just Greenberg acting with the best.
Not only did Greenberg make an appearance, Skye P. Marshall, who plays Dr. Lex Trulie on Good Sam, popped in right before they sent us off to watch our reunion and a great episode of Good Sam. So many twists.
We didn’t immediately get our girls back together, but it was electric when we did. Joy was playing Amy Taylor, a patient who had come in for heart surgery, but she ended up having something wrong with her stomach. They first thought she had relapsed after being sober for three years, but luckily it was a rare condition where her stomach was making yeast. Hilarie played Amy’s sister Gretchen Taylor. She was the carrying sister.
These characters were so much fun. Because of Amy’s condition, Joy had to play drunk, and it was so funny. We’ve never seen her play this kind of character before. I couldn’t stop laughing when Joy drunkenly said to Sophia that they had met before a long time ago. I think the writers had some fun with this side plot.
Hilarie was in the role of the older sister that was always there for Amy. You could feel her pain when she thought her sister had fallen off the wagon. She wasn’t on screen very much, but she played her part well.
It was a fun little way to reunite our favorite One Tree Hill women. And it was a great way to promote Good Sam. Wednesday nights at 10 pm is a challenging time slot. It’s competing against Chicago PD, which has a huge fan base, and a lot of those fans would be into Good Sam too but have to choose between the two shows. Luckily, you don’t have to watch a show live with streaming and DVR these days.
I hope this little reunion helped more people find their new favorite show. Good Sam is a great show, and it’s just getting started. I also hope to see our three women acting together in something soon. A holiday movie sounds like a great way to bring them back together. We’ve had a few One Tree Hill reunions in those already.
