The circle that knows Clark Kent’s secret just grew in the season two finale of Superman & Lois. I never thought it would happen this early in the season, but once Lana Cushing knew, it was time for other people to be let in on it too. It was no longer protecting the people they loved.
It took a world-ending crisis for Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) to realize how much she needed her friend, Clark (Tyler Hoechlin), in her life. Isn’t that how it always goes. It shows you what matters in your life. Sadly, not enough for Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez) to get back into her life. If this were a teen show, they would have been together by the end because we all would have been shipping them to be. But this is an adult couple with kids. And Lana is a strong female role model for her daughters by not taking him back. She needs to heal and forgive him before that can happen. To be honest, I could go either way with them getting back together. I want the cute daughter-father scenes with Kyle and Sarah Cushing (Inde Navarrette) to keep coming, but for Lana, I want to continue seeing her as a badass. I also love the cute scenes with Clark and her. We got another one here. Lana and Clark tell each other they can’t imagine life without the other. Then they hugged. This friendship is so pure. Ang thankfully, it didn’t take long until we got them back. Sarah finally knows the entire truth too. So now, Jordan Kent (Alex Garfin) and her have a chance at making this work. She now understands why Jordan was acting the way he did.
I wanted Lois Lane (Bitsie Tulloch) to tell Chrissy Beppo (Sofia Hasmik) because it was just too much friction between them, plus Chrissy would probably find out the truth eventually. It was pretty cute how she reacted. First, Chrissy thought Lois was lying. Then she broke down in tears. After that, she was staring at Clark weirdly. As Lois said, they are going to have to work on that. She’s going to give it away.
While I didn’t expect Superman’s secret to come out this season, I’m glad it did. Now they can work together to defeat whatever enemy they face next season. Lana already helped them last season. Now, she’ll be in on everything that’s going on. And I can’t wait to see Lana do more as Mayor. She’s doing a great job so far.
The biggest surprise of the season finale may have been Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner) coming to save them. While he did want to know his brother, he never had much interest in helping people. But he just wanted to help his family. Then, he acted like an uncle and bought his nephews two trucks. I can’t even imagine Jordan and Johnathan Kent (Jordan Elsass) driving around in them, but it was pretty cute and funny.
It was pretty insane that Superman went into the sun to get his powers back to save everyone. What he had to endure to regain his powers seemed horrific. But it’s Superman’s job to save the world, and he can’t stop helping people, as Lois said.
The writers of Superman & Lois tried to explain why Kara has never been mentioned. Sam Lane (Dylan Walsh) gave an inspirational speech to his grandsons implying that their dad is the only superhero on this Earth. Meaning that our Superman is not the Superman we knew from Supergirl. That’s a little confusing, though, since John Diggle (David Ramsey) seemed to be the man we knew from Arrow. The writers may just feel like that’s a tidy excuse. Showrunner Todd Helbing said that Superman & Lois‘ place in the Arrowverse would be explained in the season finale. It’s not a good enough explanation for me, though.
The writers did open up possibilities for season three with a fortress for the family. Jon is even going to learn about Kryptonian technology. I’m so here for this. Lois has her way of helping. I’m glad that Jon will find his way too.
