I was very excited about the Teen Wolf Movie panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con because I loved the show, and I can’t wait to see these characters back on my screen again. It was a little disappointing how few of the actors they brought, but I love Tyler Hoechlin (and he looked so good up there), and since Superman & Lois wasn’t coming, this was an excellent way to see him. And they did talk about Superman & Lois. Just how good he is in the series. Plus Creator of Teen Wolf, Jeff Davis’ brother, believes Hoechlin is the best superman. I couldn’t agree more. And he makes such a good team with Bitsie Tulloch, who plays Lois Lane on the show.
But enough about Superman & Lois. This was a panel about Teen Wolf, and at one point, Hoechlin repeated the show’s name repeatedly so they could get back on track. It was fun seeing Hoechlin, Tyler Posey and Jeff on stage together. The Tylers love each other, and you can feel that when you’re in the room with them. This show means as much to them as it means to us. Hoechlin was most excited about coming back to Comic-Con when he got to reprise his role as Derek Hale. He comments how people didn’t even want them there their first year, but the following year fans were very welcoming. I can’t imagine not wanting these lovely people. Maybe the show hadn’t caught on yet. I wasn’t watching it then, either. I didn’t fall in love with it until 2016. Sadly, almost at the end. But I did get to enjoy its last panel at New York and San Deigo Comic-Con and be in a few of their press rooms. I’ve re-watched the show several times now, and it’s always there when I need it.
There was some reminiscing during this panel. They took it back to filming the pilot where the camera broke, and they didn’t know anything about lacrosse. You would have thought someone would have researched the game before stepping on set, but I guess that was an afterthought. Apparently, the trailer also caught on fire on day three. What may have appeared to be bad omens clearly didn’t pan out because the show is such a success, so much so we are getting a movie.
Jeff didn’t want to do another season, but when Paramount + asked if he would do a movie, he agreed. Though the movie is so long, he says it’s a like a small season seven. It’s unclear how much of what was filmed will be cut, but I hope it all gets in there, within reason. I already thought I wanted this to be at least a two-hour movie. An hour and a half is just not enough. That’s like two episodes. So, maybe we can hope for a three-hour movie. And we might get even more of our favorite characters back. Jeff said they are in discussions to do more. Maybe we can get Dylan O’Brien and Arden Cho in the next one. And they can give her fair pay. I know Dylan said he’s done with Stiles, but maybe given another opportunity, he will change his mind. We can only hope.
We didn’t get too many details from the movie. What we do know is that Scott McCall is now in his 30s, and he’s left Beacon Hills because it has messed him up so much. He’s living in LA, working at a vet office and being human. The question is, what brings him back to Beacon Hills? The Teen Wolf trailer shows us many of our favorite characters but also many old enemies. The trailer gave me chills stepping back into that world and just remembering everything they went through, and now it appears they are battling for their lives once again. And we all screamed when Crystal Reed came up on the screen. She looked like a badass, as per usual. I can’t wait to discover how they brought her back to life. It was so sweet that Jeff said Crystal cried when he asked her if she wanted to pick up the bow and arrow again. I was also getting a little tearful just watching the trailer. So, I can understand why she got so emotional.
There’s no word on when the movie will be released yet. I hope it’s soon. Check out the trailer and let me know what you think and what you’re most excited about seeing. Tweet me @PrimetimeDrama or @MandyTTCarr or comment below.
As a bonus Sarah Michelle Gellar made a surprise appearance on stage. She’ll be starring in the spin-off, Wolf Pack. It was exciting to see Sarah returning to the supernatural world. Plus, Jeff would love to get her on Teen Wolf. I’m here for that. In whatever way Jeff can write her in.
