When I started watching Riverdale, I said it was Gossip Girl meets Dawson’s Creek but it definitely has some One Tree Hill wrapped in there too. There is so much corruption and so much mystery, plus, they’re still just in high school. If any of you are having or had normal high school lives, good for you. I know I didn’t. But what is normal?
Jughead kind of caught my eye from the beginning. There was just something about him. He’s cute, smart, mysterious, and loyal. Now we’re starting to learn a little bit more about him. He was living in the drive-in, no wonder why he was fighting to save it so much, and his father is part of the gang. How is he smart and respectable with a father like that? I’m sure Fred would take him in if he knew how Jughead was struggling. I was liking Jughead before, but now he just got that much more interesting.
This episode was a lot about learning about other characters other than Archie, Betty, and Veronica. This town is so corrupt, down to the mayor. And Veronica’s mom is mixed up in it too. Not only that, her dad is in on it. It always amazes me when the kids are good and the parents are horrible. That’s definitely the case with Mrs. Copper. I’m beginning to think Mrs. Cooper made Polly crazy. Betty is a strong, smart, loyal woman, despite her mother. I can’t stand the woman. She told on Archie just to show Betty “what kind of person” he is. It had nothing to do with a teacher acting inappropriately. I loved how Betty was standing up for Archie. This friendship is clearly fully intact.
Kevin, oh Kevin. We all have to fall for a bad boy from time to time. At least he found someone. This town is so backwards with last week’s episode with Josie talking about how she struggles and this week with Kevin only having a gang member as an option. This town definitely needs to get with the times. Even though there are struggles with the minority characters, I love how diverse this show is. Sadly, there aren’t many shows that can say that. I’m not a fan of casting diversity for diversity sake. I like it when it doesn’t matter who the characters are, black, latino, female, gay. The character is great, which comes from the actor and writers. So far, these characters are all great.
By the third episode I was intrigued, but with the fourth episode, I’m hooked. Let’s see where the story takes us from here.
