Supernatural had demons and angels possessing them, making it possible for the actors to play different characters. Walker has them going undercover, and I’m here for it.
Undercover Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) is a lot of fun. I hope the writers will throw him back under every once in a while.
Since episode one, there’s been mention of Walker’s deep undercover case that lasted 10 months. I had no idea it was that close to home. I’m glad we got glimpses of his time, and it was exciting to see Walker doing his thing. I’ve been wanting more action, and the writers delivered.
There’s a fine line to draw between the action and the family drama. He upset both of his kids having to go back under, but August (Kale Culley) is the one that forced his hand. In the end, it’s what helped him close the case.
It was a pretty intense case. He really had to get in with this crew that was robbing banks, and he had to get close to a woman to do it. I can’t imagine how hard that was just after he lost his wife. He really played Duke’s character convincingly.
And I absolutely loved that Micki Ramirez (Lindsey Morgan) went under with him to help him close the case.
The case wasn’t closed before because the money went missing, and Liam (Keegan Allen) wasn’t going to put his brother on the stand to blow his cover and put his family at risk. So, that meant 10 months down the drain, until now.
Micki was right. It was exhilarating. I loved when Booth and Brennan would go undercover in Bones. It wasn’t a typical episode, but I loved when it happened. I hope Walker can do the same thing.
And Jared looked pretty damn good in a blue collared shirt and a baseball hat.
Walker really wanted to put Duke to rest, so he faked his own death. He definitely went out in a blaze, much like one of the old crew members from the flashback, Clint, played by Austin Nichols. Another One Tree Hill alum. Austin played the cowboy part to a tee. Even if there wasn’t much depth to his guest appearance, it was nice to see him again.
Walker had some explaining to do when he got home to his kids. Stella (Violet Brinson) was upset he missed her game, and August thought he was itching to leave with his “to go” box, not understanding that it really was from a case.
I’m still not quite used to Jared playing a dad to two teenagers. He doesn’t seem old enough. The estrangement is truly there. I would love to see flashbacks with him and his kids to see their relationship before their mother died. Despite the distance you feel, there are a lot of great family moments.
And they both really love him. Stella told her new coach Jeff (Trey Barnett), that she started playing soccer to get her dad to come home because her mom was a soccer player and her dad never missed a game. Sadly, Walker’s work will keep him away.
August finally had the tough conversation with his dad, just at the very worst time. There would probably be no drama in this family if it weren’t for his job.
The Walker family wasn’t the only one with family moments in this episode. Micki started the episode by almost getting in a fight with her boyfriend, Jeff, because she wasn’t ready to meet his mom. She ended the episode by being up for the idea and drawing him a picture of himself as a coach in front of the Las Vegas sign, where his family lives.
Walker is trying to put his family back together, while Micki is just starting hers.
