We’re only two episodes into season two of Superman & Lois, and there’s already a lot going on. And it looks like we could be contending with several villains this season.
I may not know the new villain we will soon be introduced to, but I’m okay with this most of the time. Because I enjoy meeting them the first time and I have no expectations. I saw a lot of tweets about Doomsday. People seem pretty excited about him. Is the villain a him? Regardless, this enemy looks pretty scary. It’s digging its way out from the center of the Earth, causing quakes and painful visions to Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). I’m here for this villain because it has me on the edge of my seat.
I also love that John Henry Irons (Wolé Parks) is helping Clark Kent and Lois Lane (Bitsie Tulloch). He may not be getting back into the suit, but he figured out that whatever is causing the tremors is causing Clark’s attacks. I hope this is going to continue to happen this season. John may be “retired” from the suit, but that doesn’t mean he can’t do research. Felicity Smoak didn’t go out into the field until later seasons and think about all the good she did. Catlin Snow also brings her expertise without stepping into the field. And besides, Lois and Clark need help. They have two teenage boys to raise, plus Lois has a business on top of saving people.
Speaking of Lois’ business, things aren’t going well. An article she wrote years ago about the cult her sister, Lucy, was in was brought up in a podcast saying Lois made it up. We all know Lois wouldn’t lie in her journalism, but what if her sister lied? Like we didn’t have enough to worry about with Superman’s attacks and something causing tremors and the attacks, now her and Chrissy Beppo’s (Sofia Hasmik) paper may be in jeopardy. And maybe their entire careers. Season two is getting pretty intense, pretty quick.
We also had Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner) almost killing Jordan Kent (Alex Garfin)! How did Jordan and Clark not see that he would try to escape? Jordan did better against Tal-Rho this time, but he’s still just a kid, as Clark said. And that wasn’t the only bad thing that happened to Jordan in this episode. Sarah Cushing (Inde Navarrette) finally came clean about why she’s been so weird since she got back from camp. She kissed another girl but said it meant nothing. A kiss is not nothing. Poor Jordan, almost killed by his uncle and cheated on by his girlfriend on the same day.
While I don’t like what Jordan is going through, I like the chemistry between Sarah and Natalie Irons (Tayler Buck). They are bonding over the car Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez) bought for him and Sarah to fix, but it looks like Natalie will be the one to get it running again. There are also hints of these two getting together with the reveal of Sarah’s kiss. Considering how they lit up on screen together, I’m totally okay if this is where it’s going.
Now, circling back around to Tal-Rho and his fortress. It appears that he could be sticking around. The writers tried to get us to feel sympathy for him while introducing us to his and Clark’s mother, Lara Lor-Va (Mariana Klaveno), in her Kryptonian form. Tal-Rho has a lot of anger towards his mother and blames her for leaving him for everything he has done. Though, as it turns out, she didn’t know he was alive at first. I don’t know if Tal-Rho can be redeemed, but I hope we see more of Lara.
Episode two of this season was jammed back. While Superman was having one of his attacks, the superman wannabes came and saved him, and one of them happened to be Tag Harris (Wern Lee). As Clark said, he’s barely 18. This is crazy that Lt. Mitch Anderson (Ian Bohen) is putting them out there so early. It’s unclear what role this storyline will play at this point, but it’s definitely in the mix.
And one of Jonathan Kent’s (Jordan Elsass) teammates could have been affected by the X-kryptonite. He’s exhibiting extra strength. This will undoubtedly have effects on and off the field.
Not everything was intense this week, though. Lana Cushing (Emmanuelle Chriqui) is now running for mayor! She’s perfect for the job. Plus, when she gets let in on Clark’s secret, cause we all know that’s happening eventually, that will work out well.
