Claire Holt is finally becoming human. Starting Thursday she’ll be trading in her fangs for a badge. She’ll be playing a cop on NBC’s ‘Aquarius’.
According to TVLine, Claire, 26, “will play tough-skinned police officer Charmain Tully.”
‘Aquarius’ will star David Duchovny from ‘The X-Files’ as L.A.P.D. Detective Sam Hodiak, chasing after a missing teen.
This won’t be just another cop show though, we go back to 1967 and they’re chasing Charles Manson. While this show does feature the legendary serial killer Manson, according to the NBC website, this is a work of historical fiction that “begins two years before the 1969 Tate-LaBianca murders. It’s a shocking thriller, a nuanced character drama and, in the end, the story of how we became who we are today.”
Chasing after Charles should be fun, but the time period makes it an interesting time for Claire’s character Charmain.
In an interview on NBC, Claire said it was exciting to play a character that gets to be “one of the first woman to be given opportunities on the police force and at the forefront of women’s rights.”
Claire said: Charmain is “strong and smart and an independent woman, but she’s living in what is unequivocally a man’s world. She is desperate to be taken seriously.”
This is something Claire is quite familiar with. She was always trying to be taken seriously with Klaus on ‘The Originals’. Klaus always called the shots and she never got what she wanted.
So Claire will be in familiar territory, but in ‘Aquarius’ it sounds like she’ll be breaking more ground than she did with Klaus.
I’ll be missing Claire as Rebekah, but at least we get to see in a very interesting role.
‘Aquarius’ will be 13 episodes and premieres on Thursday, June 28 at 9/8c p.m. on NBC. The network will be trying something different with this series. The full series will be available as of Friday, June 29 on nbc.com.
“With ‘Aquarius’ we have the opportunity to push some new boundaries to give our audience something no broadcast network has done before,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt told The Wrap. “We are fully aware how audiences want to consume multiple episodes of new television series faster and at their own discretion, and we’re excited to offer our viewers this same experience since all 13 episodes of this unique show have been produced and are ready to be seen. I appreciate the enthusiasm we’ve gotten from the producers of the show and our partner Marty Adelstein of Tomorrow Studios to launch this series in a new, forward-thinking way.”
This definitely marks the start of a new era. We’ve been binge watching shows on Netflix for years and now we can do it with broadcast television as well. Times are changing and it’s nice to see the networks trying to work with the times and not against them.
According to The Wrap, the show is only available to certain advertisers and the broadcast and VOD platforms will mirror each other. This will result in limited interruption on all platforms.
The show will premiere with a two-hour episode and then the network will release the remaining episodes online the following day. These episodes will be available for a four-week period. ‘Aquarius’ will continue to air one hour episodes every week at 9/8c p.m. on Thursdays.
So we have two options to watch Claire! She doesn’t really appear in the trailer, but hopefully she’ll get plenty of screen time. She is supposed to be a series regular after all.
