There’s so many secrets and so much corruption in Riverdale. I thought Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars had a lot of secrets but it doesn’t even come close to this town. A lot of those secrets and corruption comes from how backwards this town is. They hold such old grudges and they just run such a corrupt society.
I absolutely love the detective/reporter thing that Betty and Jughead have going on. They found out more than they bargained for when they snuck into Jason’s room. So, Polly was engaged to Jason. That leads to more questions than answers. Were they going to run away together? Did Mr. and Mrs. Cooper find out and forbid her from seeing Jason? That would explain why she was trying to kill herself.
Some of these parents seem to be decent but then the other half probably shouldn’t have had kids. Mrs. Blossom is insane. It’s no wonder Cheryl acts like she does and Jason was running away. The Coopers are also a bit unhinged. I don’t believe what Mr. Cooper is saying about Polly. There’s a lot more to the story than just what he’s saying. Mrs. Cooper is just as insane as Mrs. Blossom. They put these unrealistic expectations on their kids and treat them with no respect.
No one said Archie following his music career was going to be easy and I’m glad he’s rising to the challenge. He’s getting his priorities straight for everyone. He’s a lot more mature than you would expect a high school student to be, despite his lack of judgment with his music teacher. I think that has a lot to do with his father. Fred isn’t perfect by any means but he certainly has a better head on his shoulders than the Coopers and the Blossoms. He’s not ensuring his kid is going to need therapy when he’s an adult and he’s trying to understand his change in passions.
Hermione isn’t that bad despite her dirty dealings. She’s probably somewhere in between Fred and the Coopers and the Blossoms.
Is anyone else having major Dawson’s Creek vibes here? Betty reminds me a lot of Joey Potter. The smart girl in love with the boy next door. Then walks in Jen, which would be Veronica in this case and there is the love triangle.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t read that many of the Archie comics, so I have no basis to the storyline or characters. I’m enjoying this adaptation with the murder mystery wrapped in. There are so many secrets and each layer we are uncovering is getting even more interesting.
At this point, I have no idea who killed Jason but Mr. Cooper is looking very suspicious and we know he’s not telling the whole story.
