‘Younger’ Review: Do You Know what a Meme is?

We knew season four of Younger wasn’t going to be easy. Even through the tension between Liza and Kelsey, we can still have a lot of fun with this show, though.

Liza (Sutton Foster) and Kelsey (Hilary Duff) haven’t really had it out yet but they did tonight, in Diana’s (Miriam Shor) closet of all places. It was pretty intense. Liza was just trying to look out for Kelsey but it was too soon for her to give her any advice. But the writers didn’t let us stay in that intensity for too long. Diana overheard them and told Charles (Peter Hermann) that Kelsey stole Liza’s boyfriend, “20 something drama.” That’s what I love about this show, you’re feeling the emotions and then someone has a funny line. Lauren and Diana are great at these lines. Maggie is great at putting things into perspective.

Now the big question, do you know what a meme is? If you want to learn about trends, this show is great for that. Since there are the 40 somethings, the 20 somethings always have to explain it to them. Liza for some reason has gotten by this far but now that Kelsey knows, she doesn’t know how she never saw it before. Sometimes I wondered too how no one could figure out that Liza was playing out of her comfort zone.

I hate how hurt Josh (Nico Tortorella) is and then it breaks my heart more seeing Kelsey and Josh together. I get that they’ve both been hurt by the same person but it still stings deep.

One of my favorite moments from the episode was with Charles and Liza when she helped him with his back. I just love when Liza’s 40-year-old wisdom comes in handy and then she has to cover up how she knows it. It’s always great moments. First, they’re like, how do you know this and then she has to come up with some reason. It’s funny every time.

Liza and Kelsey clearly have a long way to go before they heal. I hate them fighting but it shows how deep their friendship was with how hurt Kelsey is.
