Season four of Younger comes to end in a not so typical season finale. There were a couple OMG moments but it was lacking the spark of other season finales.
It took a while for it to come clear why Josh was acting so weird. He was working so hard to move on from Liza. He sees this as the way of moving forward but you can’t fill a void that Liza left by marrying someone else. It hurt so much to hear that he had to put a ring in between them just after the night before. He told her it had always been her. He’s so conflicted. Is he still hurting? Is he still mad? What’s really stopping him from going back to Liza?
While I am Team Josh, I did want to see more Charles (Peter Hermann) and Liza scenes. I loved Charles’ face when Diana (Miriam Shor) said Liza had flown to Ireland chasing after Josh. Charles is in an awkward situation. His ex-wife thinks they are reuniting, while he is still trying to figure out how to make it work with Liza.
I also would have loved more Kelsey (Hilary Duff) scenes. I felt like it was light on her. I do feel like we set up some great stuff for season five. We’ve made the triangle into a square, Zane (Charles Michael Davis) is here to make a mess and Diana is back to her old self. Season five should be a lot of fun.
For most of this season, it felt like the love triangle was gone but it’s clear that it’s back and very much alive. I’m so happy it’s back. I love seeing Liza with both of these men, but I really do feel like she belongs with Josh.
I can’t wait until season five and hate that we have to wait until 2018 for new episodes.
