This season is truly just getting started and I love where it’s going so far. The writers are taking all the characters on different paths and I’m looking forward to seeing where they all end up.
I hated that we didn’t have Ed (Cory Michael Smith) in the first two episodes but the writers sure made up for it in the third episode. A fangirl broke him out and thawed him out. The fangirl was obsessed with him and riddles. Unfortunately, Ed is not back to full strength. I guess we couldn’t expect him to come out of that totally normal. I’m sure he will get his intelligence back but it will be fun to see how Ed deals with not being the smartest person in the room. Though, when the fangirl was giving him the riddles and getting them wrong it reminded me of when Ed was giving Fox riddles and Fox was giving quite reasonable answers but Ed was appalled by them. Not that Ed’s answers were as reasonable but maybe he should learn that not all riddles only have one answer.
I had a feeling that this season might be the season that Bruce (David Mazouz) started to play the playboy and I was right. He really is in true preparations for becoming Batman now. He does have a long way to go because he keeps needing Alfred (Sean Pertwee) to save him. I’m completely okay with this, though, because I love seeing Alfred kick some ass. Bruce’s change of attitude in public should be interesting to see how that affects his and Selina’s (Camren Bicondova) relationship.
I always love the lengths that Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will go to save the city. Even if that means going to see Falcone (John Doman), who may shoot him on site. Well, Falcone didn’t shoot him and as Ben told me at the Tribeca TV Festival, this wasn’t the Falcone
that he was going to get help from. Falcone has another child, a daughter, who just so happens to be played by Crystal Reed. I loved her in Teen Wolf. She was a bad ass as Alison and it looks like she’s going to be just as fierce as Sophia, just in a very different way. Falcone doesn’t believe she is ready to go to Gotham. It appears he’s very wrong about that. She is definitely her father’s daughter and she may not have grown up being a gangster in Gotham but she did grow up being a gangster. I like Crystal but that did not distract me from being very suspicious of her character the entire episode. I was right, she showed her true colors in the end. That doesn’t mean she won’t be a great ally for Gordon. It just means she was sizing him up before she agreed to help. Or maybe she always wanted to help and she just wanted to see who he was first.
Ed is finally free but we haven’t got our Ed and Oswald (Robin Lord Taylor) reunion yet. I’m very excited for that even if it isn’t going to be a pleasant one. Oswald still cares very much for Ed but as Robin said to be at the Tribeca TV Festival, they’re always going to be enemies for friends and right now they are clearly going to be enemies.
