Gotham gave us some interesting dynamics this week. Some possible new allies and definite faux allies.
I’m going to start with Sophia (Crystal Reed) because I’m loving her. She’s so devious. If we didn’t know she was playing on Jim’s side, kind of, we would think she was such a sweet woman. But we know she has something else up her sleeve, we just don’t know what that is yet. She is playing Oswald (Robin Lord Taylor) really well. She had his mother’s dish made for him and bonded over their mothers that passed away. She’s really worked her way in and now what is she going to do?
The fifth episode in of the season and we finally got Drew Powell back. He’s no longer Butch, he’s Grundy. All of you comic book fans can fill me in on exactly what that means but all I know is I’m really liking Ed (Cory Michael Smith) and Grundy together and I think there’s a new team being made. They are both lost and trying to find themselves, it seems perfect. And they are just too cute together. That doesn’t mean that my heart doesn’t want Ed and Oswald to reunite, it just means, for now, I’m enjoying Ed and Grundy.
I don’t think I really thought Bruce (David Mazouz) would kill Ra’s al Ghul (Alexander Siddig). I didn’t think he had it in him, not in a bad way. But then when he threatened everyone he loved, I wasn’t surprised Bruce did it then. Then I knew he wasn’t strong enough to hold himself back.
I will say that I think the writers are fast forwarding Bruce’s character. In some ways, they needed to because Bruce needed to grow and he certainly is this season.
It’s in episodes like this that you realize just how much of an impact Alfred (Sean Pertwee) and Jim (Ben McKenzie) had on Batman. We always knew Alfred did but I don’t think we knew how much influence Jim had. Two great men to raise Batman.
When are we going to find out what happened with Ivy (Maggie Geha)? Last we saw her she was taking a lot of different potions and now we haven’t seen her in a while. I’m sure she will make a big entrance but I’m getting impatient now.
