While the premiere of season 3B of Shadowhunters was dark and depressing, we had a lot of happy moments in the second episode.
I am curious about Jonathan’s intentions. He clearly wasn’t getting the sword for her, but I think he does genuinely care about her in his own twisted way. It does make me very uneasy with the way he looks at her, though. You just don’t look at your sister that way. This won’t be the end of Jonathan but at least Clary has been pardoned and can go back to being a Shadowhunter again.
I loved how crafty she was in trying to get away from him, granted, it didn’t go completely her way, but stealing the stele helped Jace, Luke (Isaiah Mustafa) and Alec (Matthew Daddario) find her.
There was a lot less action-packed scenes in this episode and a lot more sweet scenes from Malec. Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) is trying to live life to the fullest, now that his days are numbered. Forty years and counting. I guess for an immortal that can be scary when you used to have an eternity to do everything you wanted to do. He is not handling this too well, and Alec is being such an understanding boyfriend. It takes an understanding person to be okay with getting woken up at 7 am on your day off.
My favorite moment between these two was when Alec told Magnus what he was going to remember in 70 years, and it was going to be looking into the man he love’s eyes. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Simon may not be out fighting battles, but he’s definitely one of the bravest characters on the show. He risked his life to remove the mark of Cain, just so none of his friends would be in danger again. He almost died. He needed blood to recover and Izzy offered her’s, even though she is a recovering vampire venom addict. Both of them would do anything for the people they love.
Simon is finally free of the mark, and there was definitely a moment between these two. We’ll have to wait to see where the writers will take it.
It’s sad that these are the final episodes of Shadowhunters. It’s clear the writers could take the show further. It’s been a great start to the second half of season three so far.
