“The Bold Type” Review: Taking it Back to the Beginning

I’ve always kind of wondered how Sutton, Jane and Kat became friends. Who knew the Scarlet hack would be the perfect opportunity to go back and see how it all began.

Turns out the girls almost killed a man with a sandwich. A big advertiser at that. Sutton (Meghann Fahy), Jane (Katie Stevens) and Kat (Aisha Dee) weren’t always the young women we know and love today. It seems that together they became stronger.

Sutton was only at Scarlet as a temp but once she met her two best friends she didn’t want to leave. She pitched the assistant job! Her career at Scarlet started boldly, so it’s no surprise that the rest has been the same.

Jane was a little innocent thing finding her way and Kat was not the social savvy, confident person she is today. She had the ideas but it wasn’t until she met Jane and Sutton that she started to be more confident.

You can see a little glimmer of who we know them as, but they really needed each other to make themselves shine.

It was great to go back in time to see where it all began. We even got to see how Sutton and Richard (Sam Page) first met. It was love at first sight. I would love to know how after that meeting they started dating or fooling around that is.

The Bold Type is such an inspiration but I think this week it just shows you how far you’ve come. That it’s good to take a step back and see where you started and where you are now. Your journey is far from over but it’s good to be reminded of what you’ve accomplished so far.

Sutton and Kat are going down far different paths than they could ever have dreamed of. Jane is still only scratching the surface of the writer she wants to be. The show just got renewed for a fourth season, so we have so many more stories with these talented young ladies yet to see. Who knows where they will end up.

Wherever they end up, I hope they are always cheering each other on.
