Younger has come a long way since Liza’s lie. While that was the beginning premise of the show, it quickly became a show about women, their careers and love lives. This season is certainly doubling down on that with Liza, Kelsey and Diana facing new challenges. In the sixth season, the story feels like there is still mileage left to go.
I’m loving this storyline. I’m rooting for Kelsey and Liza (Sutton Foster). I can’t wait to see all the ups and downs they have on this new journey. I like seeing Kelsey get in tough spots and figure a path through. It’s very inspirational, and the kind of TV we need right now. There are three women at the top, Kelsey, Liza and Diana (Miriam Shor). That’s an amazing thing to see.
Diana is happier than I’ve ever seen her. She’s always been a strong independent woman who thought she knew what she wanted in men, but now she’s learning what she actually wants. It’s great to see her like this, and I hope we keep getting to see new sides of her.
Liza may have made a decision last season, but the love triangle still lives on. In the last episode, Josh (Nico Tortorella) made a comment about him having a baby now and Liza is with Charles (Peter Hermann). This episode, Liza had a look on her face that makes me think she misses Josh and wishes they were still together. I’m still Team Josh, so keeping the door open makes me happy. Can they ever end the love triangle while the show is still on? I think this will be a constant question until the final episode. I think she belongs with Josh, but only time will tell.
I thought I hated the fact that Josh was becoming a dad, but it’s turning out to be a great storyline. This is what Josh wanted and this also means there’s a chance Josh and Liza could end up together. The writers are challenging Josh with this new storyline, which is good. I think he needed a new challenge. He’s a great character and they needed to do something with him. There are so many great characters on this show and sometimes they don’t utilize them properly.
I hope we get to see what Zane (Charles Michael Davis) and Charles are working on soon. I can’t wait to see where all these new challenges take these characters.
