I watched season one of Tell Me a Story on CBS All Access, and I enjoyed it. I was excited to see Danielle Campbell and Paul Wesley, and who doesn’t love watching Kim Cattrall? And the fact that it came from the mind of Kevin Williamson. It was guaranteed to be good.
The one thing that season one was missing was it wasn’t on a broadcast network. I had so much fun live-tweeting and discussing the season two premiere.
Streaming does have its perks. You can play with length, you have more flexibility with language and content, but you can’t get the community of watching it together with others.
Since I didn’t watch season two of Tell Me a Story on CBS All Access, I can’t say what it’s missing from the original version. But from watching season one on streaming, it doesn’t appear that too much had to be taken out of the second season to be aired on The CW. Maybe some nudity and cursing.
Watching the premiere, I got very excited to be reminded Odette Annable was in this season. I loved her character in Supergirl, so I’m very interested to see what she does on this show.
I also got very excited to see Danielle and Paul are in a storyline together. Either Kevin is playing to us Vampire Dairies and Originals fans, or it was just a very nice coincidence. I don’t even care that it resembles You (a show I really need to get back to). I’m just so happy to see this season they will be together. It’s super creepy, but it’s okay. Let’s see where it goes with the Sleeping Beauty storyline.
The other two fairytales are Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella.
Tell Me a Story switches up Beauty and the Beast with the Beast as Ashley (Natalie Alyn Lind). An up-and-coming pop star who is burned badly when her car is set on fire. To the point that they are not sure her vocal cords work anymore.
The Beauty is Beau (Eka Darville) (Beau means beauty or handsome in French). He’s part of her security detail when she’s released from the hospital. Fun fact, this actor was also in Jessica Jones. He was amazing in that, too. He helped Jessica out, as much as she would let anyone help her out.
Another alumna from Jessica Jones is Carrie-Anne Moss, who plays Rebecca, Ashley’s mom. She’s just as tough as Ashley’s mom as she was a lawyer on Jessica Jones.
It’s hard not to get excited about a show when you like so many actors in it. There is definitely so much to look forward to this season.
The Cinderella story appears to be Jackson (Matt Lauria) (Ashely’s brother) and Simone (Ashley Madekwe). It’s not clear who is who yet. I think Jackson is more in distress than Simone. Jackson has a drinking problem that you learn about early on. But he sure has the moves to pick up Simone in the bar. If I had to say who was who now, Jackson is Cinderella.
The characters are much more connected right from the beginning than in season one. As you can see, Jackson and Ashley are both part of the fairytales. Tucker (Paul) is part of Sleeping Beauty, and he’s engaged to Ashley’s sister, Maddie (Odette).
I like that all the storylines are combined this year instead of being separate and intertwining later on. It’s just one of the many reasons I love season two of Tell Me a Story so far, and I can’t wait to watch, tweet, and write about this season.
