I became a fan of Tyler Hoechlin watching Teen Wolf and also loved his stint on Supergirl and then the Arrowverse crossovers. So, of course, I was excited about the Superman & Lois premiere, and it surpassed expectations.
Superman & Lois is not an origin story, like The CW’s other DC Universe shows. Superman has been around a long time, and now we’re seeing him in a new light, as a father. And his sons are just learning about who he is as we meet him at this point in his life.
While the show is centered around family, it doesn’t appear like we’ll have to sacrifice the action because a new but familiar foe is a challenge for him.
Seeing Superman (Tyler) save the day is nothing new, but now we see how he juggles his responsibilities of saving the world and being a father and husband.
Clark Kent and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) have two fraternal twins, Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alex Garfin). Johnathan is about to be QB1 as a freshman for the varsity team, and Jordan has a social anxiety disorder.
Clark has been worried about telling his kids because of their potential powers, especially if only one has powers. He’s waited 14 years, and in the pilot episode, he can’t wait any longer.
In our first introduction to the boys, Jonathan is a pretty typical teenage boy who is popular. Plus, he has amazing athletic ability.
Jordan is a little lost and angry. Before the diagnosis, he had night terrors and outbursts. Finding out who his father really is might be exactly what he needs.
We only got a little bit of Lois in the Arrowverse crossovers, so we knew a little about her before the premiere. She’s amazing. Her dad is a general, and the badass that she is, she’s not afraid to stand up to him. Plus, she’s the most famous reporter in the world. Talk about a serious power couple. She somehow manages juggling her job, the kids, and having Superman as a husband. For a woman without powers, she’s a dream.
But she does have a superpower. It’s her reporter instincts because she senses something up in Smallville. There’s a big company trying to “create a better life” for the town’s people, but she senses something fishy.
It’s hard not to fall in love with this family. And we get to see the vulnerable side of Superman for a change. He hurts, and he also doesn’t always have the answers.
There’s something for everyone in this show, whether you are a long-time Superman fan, Smallville fan, new to the superhero or a Tyler Hoechlin fan.
This show is a nice fresh addition to the Arrowverse. I’m excited to see where Superman & Lois goes and how it fits in with the other DC shows on The CW.
