While we may not have gotten the drama-filled Friendsgiving we were expecting, I got exactly what I wanted.
When you think of Friendsgiving, you believe everything will go wrong either in a hilarious way like Friends or drama-filled like Gossip Girl. Both are so much fun. The All American writers had something else in mind for this one.
I loved when Patience (Chelsea Tavares) told Spencer (Daniel Ezra) she was planning a Friendsgiving, and it was mandatory. I thought she was trying to get her woman, Coop (Bre-Z), and Spence back together, but she was thinking more significant than that. She knew the friend circle had been cracked in more than one way. She was on a mission to bring them all back together.
She pretty much succeeded. Layla (Greta Onieogou) needs more time before being friends with Spencer again, which is fair, but I think that was a good starting point.
I loved the inside joke of the mac and cheese with Spence and Coop. And that no one would eat Carrie’s (Anna Lore) mac and cheese dish. That’s fair. I wouldn’t either. More on her later.
That broke the ice for them, reminiscing about childhood, even if it wasn’t a great memory.
There was no sappy make up for these two, just Coop giving her great advice that I have missed. Then, coming over to say Spencer’s the one she wants to go skydiving with.
I’m just so happy! I can live without the drama of a normal Friendsgiving to have these two besties back together. I’ve hated them being torn apart.
While I’m happy that Spencer and Olivia (Samantha Logan) are staying out of other people’s businesses, it may be time for Liv to step in. Carrie straight out lied to Liv because she was having a movie night with Layla. This is creepy. This storyline has Tara in Beverly Hills 90210 written all over it. Once again, happy for more Layla screen time and glad she has her own storyline but scared for its outcome.
Spence, on the other hand, is right not to say anything yet. He doesn’t really know if Preach (Kareem J. Grimes) has a daughter or not. Preach does, but Spencer is just assuming at this point.
I hate what this could mean for Coop. We know Mo (Erica Peeples) wants to pull Preach and Coop apart. A daughter is a perfect way to that. If it is actually his kid. I don’t trust Mo. If I were Preach, I would be getting a paternity test to make sure, especially since it has been ten years.
The State Championships is finally lined up. Crenshaw vs. Beverly like we always knew it was going to be. But Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) won’t be QB1. Coach Montas (Alexandra Barreto) has a point, though. Spence and Coach Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) know Jordan’s game. It could absolutely hurt Beverly in the final.
It does break my heart that Jordan may not get to play in his last ever football game. But the coach has to do what’s suitable for the team, not one player.
I did love how Jordan got JJ (Hunter Clowdus) fired up to play that second half. They made a serious comeback to win the game. Asher (Cody Christian) was also not on great form during the first half, though we didn’t get to see that.
Sometimes these players seriously overthink. Spencer has done it more than once. Jordan has certainly done it. Now Asher. He didn’t think his coach believed in him when he should have just been going out there playing the game of his life in the playoffs. Luckily for him and JJ, they pulled it together, and now Asher is getting to meet with Montas’ husband, a defensive coordinator for the California Coast University.
Fun fact about me. While I’ve watched Veronica Mars a million times, just the other day rewatching, I saw V break into the defensive coordinator’s office. I didn’t even know that was a thing! I guess watching All American helped me pick up on that after the millionth time. I’m genuinely learning stuff about football, just like One Tree Hill taught me basketball.
