All American finally acknowledged what was going on with Layla Keating and Jordan Baker. They’ve been getting closer all season, even before Simone Hicks went to college. I’ve been shipping them for a while, and I’m so happy it’s close to becoming a reality.
Every time Layla (Greta Onieogou) and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) are together. Their faces light up. They’ve been so cute together. But Jordan was with Simone (Geffri Maya), and Layla wasn’t looking for anything serious. So neither of them crossed a line.
That didn’t stop them from getting closer every episode. One by one, Layla pushed her friends away, but Jordan wouldn’t let her push him away. He kept coming back. He even told her straight up that he didn’t let her push him away.
It appears everyone either knows that Layla and Jordan have feelings for each other and just isn’t saying anything or they are oblivious. Everyone has had a lot on their plates, especially in this episode. Olivia Baker (Samantha Logan) may have been wrong about her sponsee, but she was right about Wade Waters (Christian James). I figured he paid someone to take the fall. But now Olivia’s confidence is shook. Even if she saw something going on between Layla and her brother, she would probably assume her instincts were wrong again. I bet Wade saw an opportunity to make Liv think he was a good guy and drop the article. I hope she comes to her senses and finishes it.
Coop (Bre-Z) was looking for a job since she needed it for her diversion program. It was crazy what qualified or didn’t qualify. Coop ended up being good as Laura Baker’s (Monet Mazur) assistant, but for some crazy reason, that didn’t qualify either. But Laura figured out a way. Coop enrolls in school and does a pre-law assignment at her law firm. I’m thrilled about this. I’ve wanted Coop to find a new passion since losing music. This is a great next step for her.
That’s all just in this episode. That doesn’t include Asher Adams’ (Cody Christian) scout report that created a rift between him and Spencer James (Daniel Ezra). I’m going to say they were all too busy to see what was happening right in front of them.
It doesn’t even appear that Layla and Jordan knew either. Layla was thrown off guard when Clay (Deric Augustine) said she didn’t push Jordan away. And Jordan didn’t know where Simone’s accusation was coming from.
We all saw it coming, but the episode they got stuck in the studio solidified it. I almost expected them to kiss. But that wasn’t how I wanted their relationship to start, so I’m glad it didn’t happen. Then, Jordan helped Layla confront Carrie (Anna Lore). He was right that that’s what she needed. It was also a lot of fun to see them play football together.
Jordan and Spence finally squashed their beef when Jordan showed Spencer the letter from Simone breaking up with him. So, to cheer him up, Spence calls Layla and Liv, and they meet up at the football field. Spencer says he gathered Jordan’s favorite people. Then, when picking teams, Jordan blurts out, “I want Layla.” He quickly follows it up by saying they played football in the park. Maybe now that nothing is holding him back, he’ll admit it to himself. And maybe Spence does have an inkling. Seeing as he said, Layla is one of Jordan’s favorite people.
Layla and Jordan have been a nice slow burn, but I can’t wait for their first kiss.
