The Morning Show season one definitely had heightened drama, but each season has leaned more into that, and season three is insane with drama. I’m here for all of it, but it might be a little too much for some people.
I also love Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Alex Levy and Bradley Jackson are very different from the roles we’ve seen Jennifer and Reese in before. It highlights their talent. And The Morning Show portrays these women as powerful, so it’s easy for me to get into it.
The downside to the premiere is that it fast-forwards two years from season two. Luckily, Apple TV+ gives viewers a comprehensive recap of seasons one and two. But there is still some confusion over what happened over the last two years. It’s clear that much of this will be explored.
Episode two is the best of the premiere episodes, but episode one does what he needs it to do. It catches us up with these characters and starts the new storylines for the season. That’s sometimes the downside of season premiers that it needs to catch things up and set up stories. I can see why Apple TV+ dropped two episodes instead of one. The end of episode one also ends in a cliffhanger. So there would have been a lot of angry fans if they had to wait until next week to see what happens.
What’s revealed in the promo is the hack of the studio, so when it happens, it doesn’t feel like much of a surprise. Apple TV+ could have hidden this from the promo, and the reveal would have been much more impactful. But I was happy with how it turned out. A media company being hacked has been done before. The Bold Type had a hack where their emails were released. Granted, there is probably only a tiny amount of people who watched The Bold Type who are also The Morning Show fans. Grey’s Anatomy and The Resident also had episodes with cyber attacks in them. So this hacking theme has been done, but The Morning Show is taking it to another level, of course.
There’s a big secret that happened during the time jump. There are hints of it in episodes one and two that have brought many theories about what exactly happened. It will likely come out with the hack. And a lot of other things could come out, too. So, it could be a pretty messy season of television.
Also, UBA is having financial difficulties, which seems pretty topical for the state of media at the moment. It could be interesting to see how they portray where the media is going. The Morning Show is still continuing to have commentary on current events, even if it is in a very heightened reality. I hope the show expands on one of these threads during the season. I’ll be disappointed if it only sheds light on it for one episode.
What The Morning Show is still crushing is the wonderful dialogue between the characters, with great one-liners and excellent back-and-forth. While there can be some concern about realistic storylines, these scenes help keep the show entertaining and not have it get lost in its own heightened universe.
The Morning Show season 3 episodes one and two are now streaming on Apple TV+. New episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays.
