We assumed that the person who tried and failed to poison Ben then succeeded at the Arconia in Only Murders in the Building, but it seems like it could be two different people now.

Now that Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep) has confessed to the murder to save her son Dickie Glenroy (Jeremy Shamos), that means she isn’t the killer. She was on the suspect list at one point, but it may have been too good if Meryl Streep was the killer. But if we are going with the theory that there is an attempted murderer and murderer, Loretta could still be the attempted murderer. It’s clear to the viewers and possibly Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) and Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin) that she’s taking the fall for Dickie, but the rest of the cast are stunned and believe it could be her.
The funny thing is, the police were not arresting Dickie. They were taking him in for questioning. He’s the victim’s brother, and the police opened up the case again, so she may have taken the fall for no reason. Only Murders in the Building investigations are always messy.
But opening it up to the two killer theory means we have to look at each incident separately. And it’s not out of the question that one of these incidents was an accident. Many of the cast hated Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd). That doesn’t necessarily mean they want him dead. In a heated argument, something could happen, like Ben falling down the elevator shaft. It makes it a little more complicated with these variables, and our trio has yet to think that there could be two different killers.
Next episode, the trio may be too worried about Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) to work through their theories of Dickie and Loretta, but hopefully, those conversations come up naturally. There has been a lot going on this season that has nothing to do with the case. With only two episodes left, they have to be looking at the evidence. But I’m not worried about Oliver. We can’t lose one of our trio. It will likely be a close call, so he’ll be fine. Maybe solving a murder is better for Oliver. Clearly, directing is too much for him. Though, adding a murder into that isn’t helping.
While Dickie looked suspicious last week, Howard Morris (Michael Cyril Creighton) and Donna DeMeo (Linda Emond) are front and center now. The lipstick Donna was using looked very similar to the one used on Ben’s mirror. Howard also keeps inserting himself into the investigation. Of course, that theory also throws suspicion on Tobert (Jesse Williams) since he’s inserted himself well into the case. He could still be one of the killers, but it’s likely he’s working with Cinda Canning (Tina Fey). However, the killer had worked with Cinda before.
This episode also caused a lot of confusion over when Ben and Dickie were born. The series said Ben was born in 1973, and the bus ticket for when Loretta gave Dickie to the Glenroy’s is 1976. This could just be a mistake. TV shows mess up dates all the time. But it could also be a clue hiding in plain sight. Now that Mabel and Charles know that Dicike is Loretta’s son, these dates should be looked at. It seems odd that these dates don’t add up for no reason. Only Murders in the Building can’t give clues that don’t add up.
After a mixed season three, “CoBro” really set the season back on track, and “Sitzprobe” took it to another level. It brought the comedy that made us fall in love with Only Murders in the Building, and it also had Charles nailing his song! All while getting the integrations on camera and making up with Mabel to bring our trio back together.
